I came across this little fella tonight:

Image

Here are it's features:

Orbit Portable DVD Player with 9 inch LCD and Games - D900-1

Portable DVD Player
9 inch TFT-LCD Panel, use LED backlight, ROHS Standard.

Swivel Screen Design.

Super Slim Loader Design (Only 10mm) .

Support DIVX, MPEG4, VCD, MP3, WMA, NES formats.

Full System ATV Receiving Function.

Auto system AV monitor function.

FM radio with full bands transmit.

USB1.1 interface for card read.

8 bit game function.

Super ESP (DVD 4s, VCD/CD 15s, MP3 180s ).

Rechargeable li-poly battery built in.

*****

Did you notice that?

"Support DIVX, MPEG4, VCD, MP3, WMA, NES formats."

That's right, this little badboy reads NES roms that you burn onto CDs or DVDs, and has controller ports.

Neat little gizmo. I don't think it's worth the $233 price tag, though.

This is fucking sweet. Maybe a bit pricey but I would rather buy this than any other portable system right now.

The patent on NES is dead. It is now perfectly legal to sell NES clones, and devices that contain the NOAC. (NES On A Chip)

I imagine the patent on the SNES must be dead to, or else the FC Twin wouldn't exist.

So it would have a 25% longer life than the average cellphone.

In reading that article, other than the patents, thier are talking about Trademarks and Copyrights.

That simply means that you can't call your clone a "NES, Nintentdo, etc." Hence why the ones sold in the US have names like "FC Twin", "Polystation", etc.

If it doesn't look like a NES, if it doesn't call itself a NES, and only uses technology from the NES that has expired patents, then it is %100 legal to make and sell.
