I was amazed at how long the video was. Damn they didn't just do it a couple times. I would assume this is due to using the same motion videos as reference. Ya know most of the time these guys don't just whip this shit up off the top of their head, they use references for accuracy.

I was amazed that some of the copied scenes were so long.

I also noticed that a lot of the copied stuff was dances. I wonder if that's particularly difficult for animators (especially back when they did things mostly by hand), and so they reused...stuff...when they could. I don't know enough about how animation works to really comment I guess lol, but I know something with so much action would involve drawing a LOT more frames, so I guess it makes sense to me.

What amazes me is that no one's noticed. I mean I've seen all those movies so many times, and never caught that, so no harm no foul I guess.

Yet people can catch a one-frame flashby of a topless poster in "The Rescuers"....hmmm.

The video is pretty cool, but most of it isn't really news. I saw a montage of the Robin Hood stuff about two years ago on YouTube. The reuse of animation in that movie is particularly well-known, since the budget for it was so small that they were frequently forced to recycle sequences from previous films. This has never been a secret and in fact if you look at the IMDb trivia page for Robin Hood, it's the first thing that's mentioned there.

The The Jungle Book stuff has been known for a long time as well, but it's the first time that I've seen a montage of the footage. I'm not sure what caused the reuse of animation in that movie though. Money might have played a role, but AFAIK The Jungle Book didn't have the same budget problems that Robin Hood had.

I noticed the similarities when I was younger. I always assumed that, since Walt's last work was the Jungle book that they just reused old sight-gags and stuff because they were still trying to pick up where he left off. Then again I could be wrong.
