My campaign against Fernin is going to be nothing but videos of me in a pink wig lip-syncing to LazyTown*

*Ok, probably not. But maybe!

I think the issue here isn't so much THAT she's being punished, as the extremity of it.

I'm kind of with the parents here. Make her sit in detention and clean the shit up, but going to a special school for four months does seem like too much for a stupid lapse of judgment (and a harmless one at that) from someone so young.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

But in a statement, the Katy school district defended its actions, saying, "It is always our practice to follow the law and policy while looking out for what is in the best interest of the individual student and the district as a whole."

Yes... Because sending her off for 4 months to be around kids who really are delinquents is definitely a good idea for the poor girl.

Like SH said... Scold her, give her ISS, and make her clean the damn thing. Don't make her the next Tobias Beecher...

I have a sig because I was told to. Now leave me be about it.

At first I doubted it when people said "America is declining" but if these morons who probably failed law school are running our country, then we ARE screwed. Go us!

That punishment does seem quite harsh for the crime. We all did stupid shit at that age to some degree, and I would argue the greater majority of us turned out fine as adults. She should definitely be disciplined, but a punishment like that won't teach her a lesson. It will just end up turning her into a full -fledged delinquent. I think for a first offense giving her detention and making her scrub it off or repaint the wall would have tought her enough of a lesson. Now she will grow up despising and distrusting any sort of authority figure.

I love this line

"It is always our practice to follow the law and policy while looking out for what is in the best interest of the individual student and the district as a whole."

I doubt it is in her best interest to be around People who are bound to get her into very serious trouble

when i was in elementary school i drew on the wall of the gym with a pencil and my teacher made me stay after the assembly and clean all of it up. and that was that. These guys basically want to treat her like she has sent somebody to the hospitial

Hmm. Didn't you just make a topic stating how you still like to do graffiti? So maybe this is exactly what we need to put an end to it.

And after reading the story - I doubt very much that anything severe happens to her. It sounds like there is a lot of graffiti already where she was doing this - and she was just dumb enough to get caught so the administration's irritation with it all was taken out on her.

I'm all for her being treated like a criminal and punished accordingly. Graffiti is vandalistic bullshit and despite what anyone says, it's ugly as hell and nobody wants to see it scrawled all over their communities. It's a crime and should be treated as such.

On topic though, that Lazy town pirate song is pretty awesome.

How about she has to clean it or pay to have it cleaned and she has to serve a set amount of detention.

I don't see how reducing her education in any way would be a good idea.
