Lately I have found that I am tired all the time. I think it is one of three possible things, but it could be something else. My guesses are:
1. A general ennui - self explanatory
2. Mononucleosis - several people at work have had this in the last two years, and possible one of them took a drink out of my soda in the breakroom or something.
3. Prelimanary renal failure - some reports indicate that aspartame, the artifical sweetner found in most diet soda, might cause renal failure, which would lead to lethargy. I have been drinking diet soda for years though with no problems, so this one is fairly unlikely.
What do you guys think?

I have no clue, but all I know is that I've had the same problem for the past three years - ever since I started working full-time.
I'm just lucky I don't have a wife & kids, considering how badly I'm juggling work & grad school because of a total lack of energy. I think I've even built up a tolerance to caffeine.

There was a period of time where I was constantly tired and I figured there was something wrong with me, but it really came down to lifestyle and sleep habits. I realized that I didnt have the same stamina I had when I was 20 and an extra hour of sleep really goes a long way.
Anyway, I dont know your sleeping habits, but extra sleep really helped me.

Lethargy is also a symptom of depression and stress can lead to it as well, I would guess that before the others.

Not enough rock. Rock out more. You will be either all out full blown awake and rocking or passed out. And if you rocked HARD enough, when you pass out, it'd be ontop of 3 or 4 whores and a some bottles of alcohol.

I just recently got diagnosed with sleep apnea, and that was the main reason for my constant fatigue. I have massive tonsils that block my airway and need to get them removed. Other than that, I have started playing tennis, working out, and jogging to drop a couple extra pounds, and just the exercise has helped me to at least get to sleep at a decent time and give me a little more energy throughout the day. It's a help, but I will never feel fully rested until i get these damn things yanked out.
tldr: try exercise if you don't already. It helps my energy levels, especially if I can manage to wake up early enough before work to get a run in.

Yeah, I've been trying. I do Wii Fit for 30-90 minutes a day. I also started drinking V8 Fusion two weeks ago to make sure I'm getting enough fruit/vegetables/vitamins.
It very well could be sleep issues. I usually don't go to bed until at least midnight, and on days that I have to work, I'm up at 5 AM. On days when I can sleep in, I usually don't sleep past 8 or 9. I also find myself waking up a lot during the night.

Just rewrite it Syd like it REALLY says and you'll be ready for Yahoo Answers
EDIT: And you might want to misspell a word or three. That seems to be the trend.

- Exercise, as aforementioned.
- Don't eat garbage. Eating 4-5 healthier meals of about 400-500 calories per meal is most ideal.
- Try to include whole grain and protein into every meal.
- Also try to include fruits/vegetables whenever you can, even if it's canned.
- Limit caffeine. I know you won't stop, but caffeine during the day especially toward the night will reduce the quality of sleep. Also, Diet Coke has about 25% more caffeine than regular Coke.
-Try to get at least 6-7 hours of sleep, but 8-9 is more ideal given a normal metabolism. People (or animals in general) with higher metabolisms generally rest more. People always horribly underestimate the power of sleep. Getting a good rest helps with the immune system, metabolism, energy level, and mood. More information is retained in the brain from the day with good rest as well as better clearing the brain for learning the next day.
EDIT:
- Eat a healthy breakfast! The carbs and proteins soon after your rest helps get your body and brain ready for the day and helps to provide sluggishness later on.
- Avoid refined sugar as much as possible. That shit is just nasty (also, I still do have it sometimes when there's not much alternative)

hmm, that's somewhat similar to my apnea, less the waking up early part. maybe anxiety? Maybe just a light sleeper. I would try to avoid the pills they will inevitably try to give you, as they are addictive in nature, and generally make you feel gross when you wake up. Maybe for a couple days try drinking a little nyquil at around 10:30 or so. I know that stuff at the very least keeps me from waking up so frequently.

I used to take NyQuil, but it's a pain the ass to get these days. Real NyQuil is only available over the counter these days, because kids were using to get high. It's fucking annoying. Shit's been around forever, and now they suddenly make you feel like a criminal every time you buy it.

I do love NyQuil when I have trouble sleeping. I konk out and wake up feeling like a million bucks... without the slime.

Yeah, I think sleep & nutrition are my problem too. I've been drinking more V8 and OJ to remedy my "Meatatarian" diet, but this trial at work is killing any chance that I have of getting more than 5-6 hours of sleep per night.

The nutrition and diet thing are huge, but let me throw something else out there. I had the same problem when I was in middle school, to the point of almost falling asleep in class. Turned out my problem was anemia--my iron stores were in the "about to kick the bucket" kind of range. Taking iron supplements (in addition to exercise, a daily multivitamin, etc) and B-12 (to help iron absorption) every day turned me into a new person. To this day if I miss taking iron pills for more than a few days, the lethargy starts to come back. (I should note that, like you, I stay up way to fucking late. I'm tired in the morning, but once I'm up its usually okay; I don't stay fatigued through the day anymore.)
If you can, get some blood drawn and have them check your iron stores. Failing that, just start taking some extra iron and B-12. Its not gonna hurt you one way or the other, and it might really help.

I actually do take B-12, I'll need to look into iron. I could probably use some Vitamin D as well. I get A, C, and E from my V8.

iron deficiency is not as common in men as it is women, you should still probably get it checked out but I doubt its as major a cause to your problem as the years of punishment you have put your body through. you are no longer 21. Maybe 2 2 liter bottles a day and whatever bizarre eating habits you stil have (see consuming wedges of cheese, eating peoples garnishes at restaraunts etc) have caught up to you. get some sleep and see if you can get some meds to ease off the caffiene, you'll feel better.

Good points. I forgot that its less common in guys. Still worth checking out though like you said; less common doesn't mean nonexistent.
Syd, I'd look into getting a good multivitamin too. I know your V8 has lots of good stuff in it, but a good supplement can only do you good. The good ones can be a bit pricey, but I still say give it a try and see how you feel. If there's no change, you can always stop using it, but you might be surprised.
Here's another issue I thought of: sunlight. The only reason I get my quota is because I love outdoor sports, and because the Army doesn't give me a choice. When I was younger though, I lived inside my room, windows shut, lights on, whole nine yards. In addition to helping your body produce important vitamins and chemicals, getting at least a little sunlight helps you sleep (I forget exactly how it works, but its something like, if you don't see the sun directly, your circadian rhythm is thrown off because your brain doesn't know when its day or night.) Try sitting outside for half an hour every day, that might help. (I know its not as sunny out there as it is here in SoCal, but this applies even on cloudy days.) I dunno, worth a shot and easy to do. *shrug*

Sunlight's primary benefit to you is, I believe, Vitamin D, which I could get by drinking milk. A multivitamin can be good, but it doesn't replace healthy eating habits. All multivitamins suggest that you take them during a meal, because that helps them absorb into your system better.
And Plethora, my eating habits are much better these days. I don't eat whole blocks of cheese anymore. I have a Nutrigrain bar and some juice for breakfast, and my primary lunches of choice these days are either yogurt, imitation crab meat, or canned peaches.

I should probably be looking ways to lower my cholesterol/sodium levels though. Diet soda is pretty much nothing but salt and caffeine. My blood pressure is most likely through the roof.

Yeah, I've cut down to one diet a day, as my dad's side of the family has a history of high blood pressure/diabetes. Last doctor visit my blood pressure was on the high normal side.. i think 170/72 if i remember correctly, so I have altered my diet. Cool too, cus I've dropped 13 lbs since I went to the doctor. Though, you probably don't need to lose any weight.

You can also get Vitamin D by petting furry animals like dogs, cats, or your creepy uncle.

It may be due to diet as well. My roommate last year was always tired and napping, though he said it was unusual. The problem was that everyday, he was drinking Sunny D and crappy fast food. Loads of sugar, and defeciency of necessary vitamins will just zap all of your energy really quickly into the day. Not saying you eat crap or anything, but there may be something missing in your diet that you need. If your tiredness persists, go get a multivitamin like Centrum or something. It'll give you Vitamin C, Iron, all that good stuff with one pill a day.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

Breakfast. Breakfast Breakfast Breakfast. Seriously, if I don't have a bowl of cereal in the morning, I'm hungry all day and I can't focus on fucking anything. And definitely sleep.
EDIT: If you are considering testing your iron level, it seriously takes all of 15 seconds to draw blood, test it, and get a result. I do this every time I donate.
