It's true. It's also enough for every DSiWare launch title available right now.
Also, hybrid carts (like the GB/GBC carts of old) and DSi-only game carts are coming-- But all I heard is that Nintendo's re-releasing stuff like an enhanced NSMB and some others, EA announced something, and there's gonna be a DJ Max game (series of beatmania-like music games previously PSP-only) coming too.
As for getting my DSi: Lightning didn't strike twice for me on the money front, so I'll be getting one hopefully before summer. and 2 of my friends already have one... fuck.

Crud, this might be where the rumors about remaking Pokemon Silver/Gold/Crystal lead.

It has no GBA slot...?
Geez...just geez....
That may not sound too bad but I really like having a GBA slot. I guess I'll just get a DS lite. My little brother has one and it seems alright. Aside from having a stylus that I find a little uncomfortable it seems like a decent buy. And what's this junk about DSi exclusive games? I'm not the most up-to-date person in the world. Is the DSi supposed to be the next Nintendo handheld or what? I don't want to miss out on any cartridge games if I can help it.
Is their really anything about the DS lite that I should know about? Like any glitches or downsides I may not be aware of aside from small speakers? My original DS is in decent shape, however it's been acting a little odd lately.

DSi has cameras. So the new DSi games will probably have camera sensing gimmicks. And they might be more powerful, as the DSi can handle it. Plus the DSiWareShop will eventually have GB and GBA games. Plus all the other fun crap.
So a DSlite may be cheaper in the short run but eventually you are going to want to get a DSi. If you still plan on playing DS games.

I'm tired of gimmicks. I'm not a purist or anything, but I just want to play games that use a d-pad and buttons, nothin' fancy. However I know I can't avoid it forever, I might as well splurge and get a DSi when I get the money. I'm sure they will bring over most of the series I like to play. I just hope they don't make them too gimmicky. I've gotten used to the stylus, but that doesn't mean I'm going to start playing games that involve a camera, that's just silly.
On a side note...will the downloadable content be from the Wii to the DSi? I don't have a Wii so I hope that their will be other ways to download new content for it.
I suppose I'm getting a little too worked up though. When I first heard about the DSi I imagined a DS with the ability to download music, take pictures, and download games. While the camera and the music player really didn't interest me, the idea that I could download games to my DS did. For some silly reason I entertained thoughts of having games like Castlevania SOTN and Seinken Denitsu 3 on my DS (Yes I know you could probably get those on a PSP, however I like the DS interface). I think I'll look into it a little more before I decide. Besides, I still have a few games to beat before I even start to think about downloading games.

The lack of GBA slot disappoints me a lot because there was untapped potential there. Sure the GBA is now a "dead" platform, but the slot had other uses. I had Metroid Prime Pinball for the DS and it came with a rumble pack that fit in the DS slot. It was pretty cool. I was really disappointed they didn't release more mod carts like that, or do any DS/GBA connectivity stuff.

The whole no GBA slot thing seems like a copout just to re-release the games over DS VC, I'm still happy with my original phat DS.

Having played around with the DSi extensively today, I have to say I love it. The bigger screens are so good. I played some Contra 4, and it looked fucking phenomenal.
The web browser needs some seriously work though. It needs to be able to use the Flash Card, because it runs out of memory way too fucking fast. I tried to load depair.sydlexia.com on the DSi browser, and it ran out of memory after ONE FUCKING POSTER. And the posters are only 200KB each. Fucking ridiculous.

I bet the maker's of "Guitar Hero: On Tour" love the DSi, since it can't play the game due to lack of GBA port for the guitar controller.

Ah yes. There's a second another mod besides the rumble pack the GBA port was good for.

I simply liked being able to unlock bonuses on DS games by having previous titles in GBA form. I always thought that was pretty neat.

Vicarious Visions already said they were working on another way to bring GH on the DSi. =p
Probably with one huge cartridge.

More handhelds need to follow the GP2X's lead, and put USB ports on them, so you can use various devices without having to come up with silly ways to do it.

Someone at my school was playing around with a DSi this morning. The photos that the camera took were oddly clear, and you can make all sorts of weird edits to the photos, like stretching the pictures out, and changing the hues.
The sound recording software wasn't spectacular, though; every time I tried to record my voice, it ended up sounding like a chipmunk.

As tempting as it is to splurge and get one with my upcoming paycheck, I don't think I will. I love my video games, however shelling out that kind of cash for some gimmicks that don't really seem that practical isn't something I'm going to do. Oh well...maybe they will come out with new colors by the time that I decide to buy one.

Also guys, if you have an internet connection, you can register your DSi at club.nintendo.com for an extended warranty and 160 coins.

160 coins is helpful if you want to get... Um... Some cards. Or a case. But you have to register 7 or 8 games too.

It goes a long way though. 160 coins is 10 more than you'd get for registering 3 Wii games. This is also the first system that NOA has decided to award us coins for registering.

About the music player: I love the Mario screen!
Heh. I turn the L and R buttons to 'No Sound' and use them to jump and collect the coins. I still haven't gotten the flag. I think you have to jump on the blocks to get it but... My timing is off on that.
The Excite Bike one is pretty fun too.

Apparently there might not be a DSiVC:
From an interview with Reggie Fils-Aime on wired.com
Fils-Aime: …we don’t want to see is a game that is available on a number of other platforms, either mobile or home, nor do we want to see games that don’t take advantage of the unique capabilities of the DS.
Wired.com: So bringing back classic Game Boy games, for example, would not be something you’d want to see.
Fils-Aime: The concept of Virtual Console on DSi is not something that we’ve talked about, nothing that we’ve commented on. I know it’s something many of your readers would like to see, but it’s not something that we’ve talked about.
