And the list is in. Here it is:
TOP-SELLING HARDWARE - FEBRUARY 2009
Wii: 753,000
Nintendo DS: 588,000
Xbox 360: 391,000
PlayStation 3: 276,000
PlayStation Portable: 199,000
PlayStation 2: 131,000
TOP-SELLING SOFTWARE SKUs - FEBRUARY 2009
Title / Publisher / Units*
1) Wii Fit w/ Balance Board (Wii) / Nintendo / 644,000
2) Street Fighter IV (360) / Capcom / 446,000
3) Street Fighter IV (PS3) / Capcom / 403,000
4) Wii Play w/ Remote (Wii) / Nintendo / 386,000
5) Killzone 2 (PS3) / Sony / 323,000
6) Mario Kart Wii with Wheel (Wii) / Nintendo / 263,000
7) Call of Duty: World at War (360) / Activision Blizzard / 193,000
8) Mario Kart DS (DS) / Nintendo / 145,000
9) New Super Mario Bros. (DS) / Nintendo / 144,000
10) Guitar Hero World Tour (Wii) / Activision Blizzard / 136,000
*Figures include Collector's Editions and non-hardware bundles.
Nintendo had 5 games on the top-selling list, and none of them are even remotely close to anything considered new. Damn. I guess when you have both the console and the handheld with the fastest growing userbases, you don't actually need to make new games. BUT THEY SHOULD.

There should totally be a New Super Mario Bros. 2....or remake SMB3 with the NSMB engine.

They should make an NSMB2 that's actually challenging and has abilities that are actually useful. The only challenge in the game comes from playing as Mini Mario.

The shell suit sucked, the Raccoon suit would've been alot better.

Mega Mario was dumb too. It was essentially just the invincibility star.

The Mega Mushroom did get rarely used in the later stages last I remember playing....it really needed a Hammer Bros. suit though.

I think that, aside from bringing back the tanooki, frog, and hammer bro suits, Nintendo should make some new suits:
-Yoshi Suit
-Bob-omb suit
-Lakitu Suit
-Shy-Guy Suit

Syd, before reading your last comment I had drawn the same conclusion.
It amazes me that these numbers don't influence them to produce more.

Next person to diss the Turtle Suit gets smacked.
Mega Mushroom might've been necessary for a Star Coin or two here and there but otherwise it was just an easy way to douchebag your way through a boss fight.
It would've been cool if there was like a stage where you used it to bust through a bunch of brick walls to progress to a secret exit or something. Ah, well I still enjoyed it. Make the sequel already Nintendo!
EDIT: They should NOT bring back old suits. After each Mario game it's traditional for them to dump all of the old power-ups save the Fire Flower and Mushroom, so they should continue to do that.

I agree, it was fun to become Mega Mario maybe once or twice but it wore thing pretty quickly.

Damn, I thought I was the only person that bought NSMB last week. And Syd, they probably are producing new games, just not good ones.

I wonder what % of people who buy Wii Fit continue to use it a month or so after purchasing it.

I still do Wii Fit, though not as regularly as I'd like.

I do Wii Fit every day. I guess I love it because it combines exercise and video games.

Why not have Nintendo create some new franchises that aren't just little cartoon characters doing boring crap in between its major franchise releases? They don't have a problem cranking out quality Mario/Metroid/Zelda games, why not try to make something that can measure up to those three in the meantime?

honestly?! you need a video game to do exercise?! that just sounds oxymoronic if you will. (is that even a word? probably not)
anyhow, general chaos from EA needs a serious reboot

Oxymoronic is the adjective form of an oxymoron.
I salute people who found fitness in video games. Good for any and all of you! If it was the missing link to being healthier, then well done for you!
At 28, I have learned that working out and maintaining a workout regimen are two different things. It is hard to be consistent because life is dynamic. So I suggest that anyone who is being helped by Wii Fit continue to use it.

NSMB is decent but I found it to be overrated considering screwattack put it on the top 10 mario games and IGN gave it a 9.5, much closer to an 8. Mario just seemed a lot slower, more cumbersome than in the other 2D side scrolling platformers.

Yes, yes I do. I don't like gyms. They creep me out.
Wii Fit offers me a fitness regimen, scolds me if I gain weight, and allows the experience to be both fun and private. It is a fantastic product.

It's not. I seriously loathe the gym and I am too far lazy to stick to any sort of fitness regimen of my own accord.

I am gonna have to back up Syd on Wii Fit here. I got it for my parents a few weeks back (who literally bought a Wii just to download Tetris Party), naturally I set it up for them and tested it out. I was thoroughly impressed, I must say.
While the strength training portion was kinda ehh, the yoga and cardio work in general seemed quite effective, rendering me sore for that whole weekend. Also, it was a pleasurable experience all the way through. Also you unlock a variety of new exercises and balancing games like tightrope walking offering you even more incentive.
Very fun, well designed product.

Yeah, the balancing games, while not very physical, are very addictive. I got a perfect score on soccer on advanced mode.
