I was just watching TV downstairs, and A Few Good Men was wrapping up. I know I'm supposed to be on Tom Cruise's side in this movie, but I find myself much more drawn to what Jack Nicholson is saying at the end of the movie.... one of the, if not the best speech I can think of in a movie.

::shivers::

Okay... so what are your favorite speeches in movies?

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

I couldn't think of anything inspiring, but Steven Segal's speech at the end of On Deadly Ground always amused me. He blew up an entire oil refinery, disregarding all the environmental destruction and pollution that destroying it would cause, and yet gives a speech at the end about preserving the earth and ending pollution. And yes, I know that is what Segal believes in real life, but after seeing him kill numerous people and blow up a fucking oil refinery its impossible to take seriously.

Wow, cannot believe no one said this yet. George C. Scott as General George S. Patton in "Patton".

Here is a consolidated version of his famous speech.

Beavis And Butt-Head Do America: "Never Gonna Score"

Scarface: "Say Goodnight To The Bad Guy"

Team America: "Three Types Of People"

Wayne's World 2: "Gordon Street"

Street Fighter: "Pax Bisonica"

Masters of the Universe: "You will KNEEL! KNEEEEEEEL!"

And of course, the greatest 80s movie speech ever, the ending to Revenge of the Nerds:

One of my favorite monologues ever is Denis Leary's abusive father monologue from Suicide Kings, but it's not on YouTube.

Hah, god, Beavis and Butt-head Do America was great. Mike Judge should really break down and make another movie, since he has been putting so much of his life's focus into King of the Hill.

Apparently Judge has been talking of making a live-action film.
Mike Judge wrote:
“I was thinking about having a Beavis and Butt-Head movie where they’re just 60-year-old winos. Just something different but with the same spirit of it, you know? A long time ago Johnny Depp had said to me-he really wanted to be Beavis-he said, if you ever do a live-action movie, he wanted to be Beavis. And he said he was doing [Don Juan DeMarco] with Marlon Brando and he said Marlon Brando used to imitate Butt-Head and he would imitate Beavis, so I guess I’m thinking Johnny Depp and Marlon Brando. [smiles]“

I love how much enthusiasm Depp shows for this role, haha.

This may kinda be cheating since the "speech" is by more than one person, but it flows together so well that I'm making a command decision and saying it counts:

And this is more cheating, because its not so much a "movie" speech as a Shakespeare speech, but fuck it. Kenneth Brannaugh made it a movie, and it fucking counts too. Bill Pullman and Independence Day has nothing on this in terms of inspiration before a fight to the death:

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...for he who sheds his blood this day with me shall be my brother..." Crying What I wouldn't give to be able to speak like that.

And now one that fully counts, as long as we're talking about great war speeches:

And to end it, here's an unbelievably unlikely speech from "Band of Brothers" the mini-series. The speech isn't by one of the heroes of Easy Company, but by a surrendering Nazi general, to his troops. It chokes me up every time, even if they were the bad guys:

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot this one.

To me, that speech is Rocky at his essence, even more so than the famous Philly Art Museum steps, or calling for Adrian at the end of the first fight with Apollo.

It's been too damn long since I've seen that...chokes me up every time, probably because he's talking about things that really happened, and not just something in a movie. "I was in charge of million dollar equipment...now I can't even hold down a job selling cars!" Crying

Sly really is a good actor when he wants to be. He does big emotions really well.
