Quote:
The new particle may break all known rules for creating matter, say the researchers who created the oddity.

Y(4140)—as the new particle has been dubbed—couldn't have formed through either of the two known models for matter creation. Researchers aren't even sure what Y(4140) is made of.

It's long been accepted that six different "flavors" of particles called quarks combine to form larger subatomic particles.

In one method, a quark pairs with one of its opposites, an antiquark, to create a type of matter called a meson. In the second method, three quarks gather to form baryons, such as protons and neutrons.

I'm very interested to see what this discovery will lead to. Hopefully not the undermining of the universe.

Wow. Must read further to actually understand what they're talking about, but Shocked . Awesome, or terrifying, not sure which.

Quark is such an awesome word, they should call the new particle "Incognito Quark".

Thats a name that belongs on a mechanical detective if I've ever heard one. So no, the new particle can't be called by that name.

Haha, "larger subatomic particle" what an oxymoronic phrase.

Whatever it is, they better keep it the hell away from the Large Hadron Collider. I'm not eager to let Doomsday happen.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

I really need to brush up on my subatomic theory, I didn't get more of that than I thought I would. Oh well.

<Drew_Linky> Well, I've eaten vegetables all of once in my life.
