Many thanks to everyone! I actually look forward to checking the forums when March 18th rolls around. I'm in the middle of prepping for comprehensive exams for my Ph.D., so I haven't been around as much as i would like... but I am also prepping something for my upcoming battle with Douche. I can't make it TOO easy for him to win. Plus I have to crush GPF's dreams of his battle against DM.
In any event, thanks again to all, you're all in the cool book. Much appreciated.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Ouch, I remember comprehensive exams. They were scheduled around my birthday in March as well, back in '06. Quite the double whammy.
Hopefully your selected profs narrowed your reading list down to what their essay questions are going to deal with. Makes studying for it much simpler.

I actually have three "out-of-house" exams, which mean I get to write 3 thirty page papers for those. My fourth is in-house though, and it's going to be a bitch. Here's the guidance my committee member gave me on what I should study:
The place of content analysis in communication theory (easy)
The ability to draw meaning from printed/spoken language (ehh.)
Communication theory and its informative value in terrorism (so broad/big, it scares the crap out of me)
In any event, I have A LOT of reading to do in the next month or so, but I'm feeling optimistic. Hopefully in exactly one month, I will be ABD (all-but-dissertation), which a few years ago, seemed f'ing impossible.

No shit, it's my brother's birthday too. But I think I already knew that they were the same day.

Good luck dude. My prof is reviewing my Master's Essay right now, with any luck he'll only suggest minor changes and I can be done this semester - When I should have been done at least two years ago.
Here's to the prospect of ending similar chapters in our lives.

I am still working on my undergrad but I have 5 papers to write this semester, one is a 25er which I am fixing to go to the library to work on all day today. It sucks to say the least but it does pay off once it is done.
I am still debating on were to go for graduate school. I really wanna take a year off, yet I don't wanna start paying loans back in that years time when I prefer to work part time and nothing else. I hope their is a waiver or something as long as I do commit that I am definately going to graduate school.
Happy late birthday Kubo, I miss the bundy avatar you had

Get ready for writing multiple 20+ page papers in grad school. I remember during finals week I would usually end up writing 60+ pages of essays total for my three classes. And since I'm so damn verbose, it would be closer to 75 usually. My master's essay only has to be 50 pages, and not 100, thank God. It's more like a journal article that way, instead of a book. Then again, it's only a M.A., not a doctorate.
Some time off before grad school might be beneficial. I took some time off, and it helped me relax, enjoy myself, and refocus.
You should definitely travel if you can. I wasn't able to go to Europe then, and I wish I did. Gonna have to try this summer to see Italy, and go for the British Isles next year.
