Ok guys, 'War Pigs' won out, so now to go about actually doing the damned thing. So first thing's first:

1. What programs will we be using? I use Audacity. Does anyone else use anything different? And if you do, do you know if that file can be merged with an Audacity (.aup) file?

2. Who wants to play a guitar solo? We need to know this so the drummer can extend sections of the song accordingly. I think it would be appropriate to fill the last solo of the song, and we can divvy it up to one section each or whatever (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuNRmNxxNAw for example).

3. Who is actually going to play on this, and what are you going to play? This is you know, really important and shit.

4. Who wants to drum? This is the most important question right now. And this will be a first come, first serve, as long as you have the proper recording equipment.

5. It really sucks that some members are going to be left out, but I'm afraid that's the way it goes Confused

I believe it's been established that I'll tack on "Bassically", and, in response to the question posed in the other thread, I'll record that last to get a feel for the rest of the song. I can just picture that last note segueing into War Pigs' ominous intro. I'll let another bassist handle the rest of the song, don't want to get too greedy. Smile
I use Audacity as well, for future reference.

Here is my predicament:

1. My "microphone" is a PS2 eyetoy converted into a webcam, so the sound quality would be a tad bit bad.

2. Thanks to my wonderful internet connection, I wouldn't be able to access huge sound files, so I'd basically only be able to send you a recording of vocals and have no idea what the song will sound like until it's all done.

That being said, do you think I should try to join in? It's your call.

If it's possible, I want everyone involved. We have time though. Vocals will be the last thing we record.

On that note, with the lyrical structure of 'War Pigs', what does everyone think of gang vocals?

If you need a "medium" level Guitar Hero soloist, I am so there Wink

Otherwise, break a leg guys. I can't wait to see the final product.

I'll just wait to see who takes what, as I can fill in for whatever. Or, if you want to put me somwhere now, then fine. I could even get to work on learning what I need, but I'm going to be listening to the song a bit anyway because it's been a while.

Here's horns for ya Dorn. I'm thinking the song can be a standard heavy cover, but for the last section of the song (Luke's Wall), we have the guitar solos and we bring in strings and horns playing that melody.

And Rycona, if you have anything specific you'd like to play (all parts in the song are pretty unique and cool), then let me know, because we gotta fill in the spaces before we start to record.

I would do the bass, but I had a bit of bad luck... My recording studio seems to have... been burnt down. A bit.
I currently have two basses, one small Line 6 amp, and nothing with which to record. And all of my money shall be going to rebuilding said studio.

Fun times......

I see no need for a signature.

I think it would be kinda cool (if we have enough singers) to have someone trade off every line, sort of like in Hear 'N' Aid. Sadly, I probably won't be able to participate in this since I have no recording equipment, no money, and can't really download anything for my computer. But, I'll try to add any input where I can because its so awesome that this is actually going down!

I'll give it a shot on a small guitar solo. I'll record one sometime even though I am not really that good at playing guitar.

If nobody else can record the strings, I can. I have a semi-cheesy keyboard at the moment, but some of the strings sounds aren't too bad, especially after a little processing.

My amp really sucks, it is the basic one that came with my guitar. My guitar skills are not that great either but like I said above I'll try to make a small solo and try my best to make it decent.

If my Rockband mic will work on the PC, I'll attempt the bass line. Though be warned, I am unfamiliar with the song.

It should, I've used my Rock Band mic on my PC before to record stuff.

It's really easy to play Vald. During the guitar solos however, Geezer Butler also solos, and you can do that whether you want to or not.

Well, I'll definitely tackle the drums, and can promise it will be superb quality. But just how do you wanna do this? If we plan on copying the song verbatim, I can just play with my friends or a CD, but only record the drum tracks, promising there will be not a single background noise or static.

Or, if someone wants to record the bass and guitar first, that would probably be preferable.

if we record guitar and bass first, people need to have metronomes and be all synchronized. And I'm thinking we'll have at least 5 or 6 guitarists to pass the recording by. So if you could possibly, Josh, record basically verbatim, but extend the solo section in the song's final section by, say...30-40 measures, that would be most excellent. And include a count in.

And sure thing hacker, you can even e-mail it if that's easier rosco113@hotmail.com

I could take care of the production if anyone isn't up for it already. I have Logic Express and GarageBand both, plus Audacity and Hydrogen, if they're needed.

You should totally check out the IRC channel.
While you're at it, go check out my band, Her Majesty's Heroines.
