HOLY SHIT!!! This is some pretty unbelievable news, I loved the first, can't wait for more info.
I allllllllllllways thought this game deserved a real sequel, its a clever concept that really need to be further fleshed out. The Wii is the perfect console for something like this.

I don't understand how this thread is not more blown up yet, this game is gonna fucking rock. Looks similar (at least artistically) to the Wiiware effort, Lostwinds and the recent Wario platformer. I fucking love those hand drawn backgrounds.
I am excited that David Crane is actually working on this title, so at least there is that integrity.

I'm looking forward to it, played the hell out of the original and Gameboy ones. The screenshots are fantastic, can't wait to see a gameplay video and I'm also glad to see the WayForward is working on it. While I haven't played Contra 4 yet (I really need to), I have played Shantae and it was an all around solid game so I'm not worried about how this one will turn out in the least.

True, I read the Contra 4 guys were behind this.
PS: Your avatar is too appropriate and sick.

Oh yea, the cavern parts are hopelessly frustrating, like the parts where you have to turn Blobert into a bubble and traverse underwater avoiding spikes...brutal...

I always remember having to turn the game off if I went down there; I could never find a way out.
Also, that part in the field-y place with the trees in the background, and you have to dodge bouncing rocks and sentient nuclear bombs disguised as falling grapes...freaking HARD. I remember I would turn the blob into a coconut and throw him across the field because he was distracting and got on my nerves.
