Slumdog won just about everything... yet the Dark Knight was barely present.
There is really only one category that matters though... Best Picture.
Dark Knight wasn't even nominated.
Yeah... that makes sense.
Ranked on IMDB as #6 of all time with a 9.0 rating... the movie is top 5 grossing...
What the hell?
Slumdog might have been a great movie, but it made less than 10% of the money, which means a lot less people saw it. Gah... I hate it when movies that my parents love are the ones that get the acclaim.

So since Friday the 13th made 40mil opening weeken and a lot of people saw it, it deserves at least a nomination somewhere in the next Oscars?
The Dark Knight was very very good but I think some people are making it sound a lot better than it was. The Oscars to not base the winners off of money made and how high the movie is ranked on IMDB.

I think movies that win oscars are made to win oscars, with a few exceptions.

An opening weekend isn't a good example of anything at any point. But yes, I do think that if a movie makes 10x the amount of money and has a better popular opinion, it should at least be fucking nominated.
The movies that have won best picture over time have been 50% great and 50% utter fucking crap.

Ah yeah, I forgot those were nominated in the same year. Saving Private Ryan was frigging amazing, I agree. But SIL was so clever, and had such a beautiful script (and execution)...not to mention all the Shakespeare in-jokes...AND Geoffrey Rush...well, I couldn't begrudge it.
Ryan had a fantastic script and execution too, though. I would guess that Shakespeare won based on the creativity of the concept and script (and like I said, it all came together almost perfectly.) And like I said, I'm a Shakespeare diehard, so I really, really loved it. (Not that you couldn't appreciate the movie if you aren't, but then it turns into a more clever than average romantic comedy, which is not nearly as innovative or interesting.)

THAT is was beat Saving Private Ryan? Good fucking god I didn't know that. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love the Oscars but that shit is unacceptable. Lest we pray the Oscars do not fully become to cinema what the Grammy's are to music.

Was that the one that starred Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow's tits ? And had Affleck as a conceited actor?
I liked that movie.

It was indeed, although I personally preferred Geoffrey Rush's performance over both Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow's tits.
C'mon--it was a good movie dammit!

Okay, fine. Fuck you all. I'm going to go watch it now, just to spite you. ( )

There was only one award that incensed me, and that was the "best design" or whatever that was that went to Benjamin Button.
I thought the presentation this year was better, and I actually gave it more than the usual half hour I do most years.

Oh God yeah...I was moderately okay when it beat out Hellboy (clearly superior) for makeup, but I was willing to give them that one. (Making hunky Brad Pitt look old is sooooo haaard Harder than making a fucking ten foot tall, eyeless, angel of fucking death? Or turning someone into a giant HELLSPAWNED DEMON? Yeah. Whatever.)
But like I said, I was willing to go with it. But when they won best costume design,I fucking flipped. THE DUCHESS had better costume design! At least it was CREATIVE! God!

Hey, I said I liked it. I meant it.
