Once again, Valve turns out to be brilliant.

When Valve inspires everybody to sell their games online and forget retail, I'll stop video gaming forever.

Games MAY be to expensive? We're at war, Valve. Pick a side.
I'm also heartened to see that a fairly major company has a basic grasp of economics...

Games might be expensive now, but about 14-15 years ago, the price was a lot more out of sight. For example, Phantasy Star IV was $100 when it came out for the Genesis; Doom was about $95.

Yeah, you're right. Somewhere between $30-$40 for a PSOne game.

I do remember N64 games being outrageous too though, same price as 360/PS3 games, I think even more for some games...

I payed 70 bucks for double dragon II in the 80's with allowance I saved up for months (and birthday money) I would say that it's pretty impressive that at their most expensive console games go for 70 now, which with inflation, is still cheaper than they were in the 80's
Not to say that I don't agree that Valve has the right idea.

Thanks to those sixty-dollar pricetags, I can no longer get a new game outside of my birthday and Christmas. You'd think that the ten extra dollars wouldn't matter much, but it really does:
Say, for example, I want to get four games. Now, if I got four PS2 games, it would cost $200. If I want to get four Xbox 360, it'll cost $240. Forty dollars is a heck of a lot extra for video games; that could've gone towards a new DS or GBA game.

I remember back in the heyday of PSone, the most expensive games were in fact about 60-70 dollars. So I'm not surprised that the price stayed the same, with the current economy.
On a side note, I may hate Steam with a passion, they do have some of the best sales in history!

Come to think of it, I remember paying about $70 when Lunar 2 came out for the PSOne. But that's because of what it was all packaged with. I think I paid about $65 for Lunar: Silver Star Story.
