It was either Pokemon, or Final Fantasy 7, I cannot remember exactly. But I do remember the first RPG I completed was FF7. I also remember getting really hyped about FF8 when I saw it in a game magazine.
I really hated it when it came out, though. There's no way in hell anyone can enjoy a game with such an overcomplicated magic system and terrible story.

I did, and a magic system is only as overcomplicated and a story only as terrible as one allows it to be. Me, I didn't. At all.

This is false. You are not required to rescue Princess Gwaelin at all. The game can be beaten without even rescuing the poor broad. This is "the other ending" apparently, but it is actually the same. The only difference I suppose is that you are left without "Gwaelin's Love" and Item you only need to find "Erdrick's Token" and once you've beaten it once, you already know where the items are. Oh, and she isn't sitting at the throne. But, back to the point, Princess Gwaelin DOES NOT need to be rescued to beat the Dragon Lord.

Pokemon Silver. But I didn't really feel like it was a RPG, even if it is.
The first RPG game I played would then be Final Fantasy VI on an emulator, when I was 14. I feel like I missed a lot in my childhood.

I never tried or knew that. You think the king would be upset, but oh well.

Why wouldn't it be an RPG?

I see. I was circa 10 years old at the time I first played FF8. I spent countless hours attempting to work out the Drawing and Junctioning systems, to the point it annoyed me. I eventually worked it out, but even with the tutorial and a manual, it was unintuitive as hell. As for the plot itself, it's solid, other than the fact half of the main characters were, in my honest opinion, the most annoying characters in any Final Fantasy game ever (except for Tidus, he's the only FF main character I hate, the others I like/dislike to certain degrees).

Hm. I have no idea. Something on the SNES I know. I think I rented one and couldn't stand it.
Then along came the gameboy pocket. Ice blue
And then came Pokemon Blue. Then I got hooked on RPGs.

ZZT also isn't really an RPG. I wish I still had the ZZT games I made. I lost them when our first computer died.

It wasn't really me playing it, but my first RPG involved me spending hours watching my older brother playing Ultima on the C64.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on the NES. Everyone else I know who has played this game absolutely hates it because of the lack of a save battery, but hey, I loved it. Although it wasn't a pure RPG, it was an action RPG in the vein of Crystalis...
As for pure RPGs, when I was eight my parents got me a Game Boy Color with Pokemon Yellow and Final Fantasy Legend. FFL was too complex for my inexperienced little self, but Pokemon Yellow was the perfect introduction to RPGs; not too complicated that it required any kind of massive strategy, but elaborate enough that it was a good warm-up for the "big" RPGs. I still remember the first time I went through it, I beat the Elite Four with nothing but a level 82 Pidgeot. That took some mad skillz.

I love that game! I have some of the music in it notated, and I plan on doing the rest eventually. The only password I can remember is MASTER... and I don't remember how to get there. It was like Ax8, Bx8 or something. I could look it up, but there's no point right now. Now that I think about it, I have to give it credit for being a decent movie game, although the premise of the movie preceeds the movie.

Playing Dungeons and Dragons with my Dad around age 8 or 9. He kept getting annoyed because I insisted on being a lizard man and chose to attack the mayor instead of accepting the quest, I think it was actually a Forgotten Realms set up instead of DND.

I probably started with Final Fantasy, but the one I got into the most when I was a kid was Dragon Warrior. Oh the days of working hard for whatever you wanted to buy.

Diablo 2, if we count Hack-and-slashes. If not, then Baldur's Gate 2. The first I owned, though, was Fallout.
