Monetize the site Syd. Listen to what they're saying because I agree with them.
No pop-ups, they'll be blocked by me anyway Probably several times with the stuff I run normally. No audio ads or ads that intetionally disrupt the content with links(if you've ever seen those that hyperlink keywords to products you know what I mean).
Adsense, stuff in line with the site(CPA offers like Netflix or Gamefly may work), a Paypal Donate button.
You've got options.
Test and work out which looks best and works best without too much site interference. And you can trust we'll give you feed back

Oh, I like the idea of a paypal donation option. Maybe not instead of ads (since donations is not a steady source of income), but I'd sure be willing to throw five or ten bucks your way when I have some extra laying around. Better than spending on fast food or other shit that'll rot my body.

Wow. Internets have changed.
Five years ago:
Webmaster: "I think I'm gonna put some small ads on my site to make some money to cover the cost of it."
Visitors: "NOOOOOOO! Booooooo! Sell-out! We hate you!!!!"
Today:
Webmaster: "You know, I really don't want ads on the site."
Visitors: "No, you fool! Put some ads up! Make some money!"
...Bizarre. I think it has to do with the way the ad structure has changed to be less intrusive and less based on click-through. Plus pop-ups are way out of style.

Good ads are fine as long as they:
1) Don't change size
2) Don't blink
3) Never ask for information
4) Never steal information
5) Always have a border to show that they are in fact an ad
6) Do not steal the focus from the content
7) Are limited to one or two places, never in the way

Fun Fact: The site actually does have a donation option. Why have you never seen it, you ask? Because it's on a page for a server error you will never get: http://sydlexia.com/error402.html

Funner Fact: If ads were put on SydLexia.com they'd probably all be Erin Esurance ads.

Lmao Syd. "Pay me for the door repair job" is fucking classic. If you ever do an official donation page (that is prominent and people use) you gotta use that.

I think it has less to do with the internet itself, and everything to do with this community and how tight we are. We know Syd, we love him, he's not some faceless webmaster guy. And we all know how hard he works on behalf of this site. (...he does work hard, right?) We also know he would never put up the kind of ads that annoy the fuck out of most people. Why WOULDN'T we as a group want him to take advantage of the chance to make money, and get some payment back for all the enjoyment we get?
