I got a drop of Lysol in the headphone jack of my Itouch and until it dried it thought the headphones were in.

I'm intrigued. Tell me more about this technique. I may have to apply it. |
Some people say that if you take a keyboard, bag the wire and place the device completely face down on the top rack of a dishwasher, you can run the light cycle with no heated dry and no soap to clean your keyboard.
I say, BULL FUCKING SHIT.
Somehow, some way, some day, it will come back to bite you, and badly. |
All computer parts can be fully submerged in water, as long as they are completely dry before you use them again. Alot of user will soak mice and keyboards in alcohol and then let them air dry to clean them. The wetness isn't the issue. It's the conductivity of the water that will cause shorts.
In fact there is a small community of high-end computer users expirementing with fully submurged cooling system using non-conductive liquids. (Mineral Oil and such)
BACK ON TOPIC:
The worst computer I have ever seen was a message saying, "Welcome to Windows ME!" |
Distilled water yes.
Your dishwasher does NOT use Distilled water.
The mineral deposits left by regular water would leave electrical bridges on circuit boards and would cause corrosion, oxidation, and everything would fucking stop working.

Mineral deposits? Unless you are on well water, they are near microscoptic and pose no real issue. The other issues are true, but thier effects would take time to work, and by then the parts would be long obsolete, and you would have long since upgraded.
I am not condoning doing it, but from a scientific stand point, I have to say that it would work with minimal risk to the parts.

Regardless of all this, I have a new keyboard now, and the old keyboard is getting a wash on the top rack of the dishwasher. Details will come as soon as it is done washing.

Just out of my curiosity, what was Lysol doing near your Itouch?

Or, he was playing a game on it while taking a shit, put it down, wiped, flushed, sprayed and lysol got in it. Thats what would have happened if it happened to me.

I was always lead to believe that it is the impurities in water that are conductive, not the water itself. In fact, I thought that water H20 is non-conductive. I might be wrong, do we have a Chemistry nerd in the house?

First time playing Legend of Zelda (on an emulator), getting fed up at dungeon three (no White Sword), I ripped the cords from my Mac and threw it at the wall. It actually survived the impact and worked for six hours or so before I shut it off and I couldn't boot OSX anymore.
The store people were so nice, they offered me a discount for Leopard (twenty-fucking-percent) and when I got my Mac back, they even fixed my broken Command key and cleaned up the screen.
So, the worst error was "GAME OVER SAVE/CONTINUE/RETRY".

This isn't really a computer error, but about four months ago my stepdad uninstalled Java. Wow, thanks!
