I like IV. It took me a little bit to get used to the driving. Now, the only thing that really bothers me is that anytime I'm trying to do something, friends/girlfriends start calling and wanting to hang out. I wouldn't mind if it weren't so frequently.

I haven't played it yet, but that has always struck me as an irritating mechanic. At the very least, you'd think they could disable it while you were on a mission or something. (Then again, GTA is so open you could be doing plenty of non-official mission things, and still get interrupted.)

It ususally is off when on a mission. Although, you occassional get calls for the humor value. (Roman: "Cousin, you want to go see some american tee-tees?" Niko: "Not right now Roman, I'm trying to drive a truck rigged with explosives!" Roman: "Oh.....okay, maybe later then." )

It's just a pain in the ass when you are trying to get across the map to get to a mission start point, and you keep getting texts and calls trying to divert you from getting there.

And if you tell these motherfuckers to piss off, you lose points with them and can allegedly lose them as a friend (and lose whatever bonus you get from their friendship). I wouldn't give a rat's but some of the shit is useful, like Jacob's weapons or Kiki getting the fuzz off your ass. But you can't be answering the phone all of the time or you'll never progress in the story.

Is there some point where you "max out" the friendships and no longer get or have to answer calls from them? In that case at least you could get it out of the way early...

If you constantly have to keep it up through the whole game, though, it fails bigtime.

It's constant. It's annoying. But it really is my only gripe. I do think it is an excellent game.

I still think I like Saint's Row 2 better. I choose mindless fun over realism. There is actually a side mission called Septic Avenger where you try to bring down property value by spraying it with a septic truck. It has a far better weapon selection as well as vehicle selection than GTA IV and the customization is fantastic.

One big concern I had with GTA4 concerns the realism of the driving. Under normal circumstances I didn't mind it.......except for the fact that it's much harder to ramp your car off stuff in this game. It's harder to find a clear stretch of road to build up speed, and the cars seem slower anyway, which just isn't as much fun.

Drunk driving is pretty cool in the game. It's even better when you take a date to the bar and then drive drunk with the cops on your ass.

Yeah the drunk driving is pretty funny, I think they got the motion capture down perfect, wonder if they got somebody shithoused and put them in the motion capture suit... Confused

The controls for walking when he's drunk are pretty crazy too, get him hammered and try to cross the street, it's hilarious. Razz

Even when I pissed them off I could eventually get them back I think it takes a few in game days for them to cool off. Had the same problem with the first girl the game gives you because I started shooting out of the car at a hotdog stand. Eventually I was able to get her to go bowling again.
