Sorry for taking it out on others.

Still, read my original post (please).

I liked it, although it gets way too much praise by most critics.

It flew under the radar when it was released and is kind of a cult classic (though, I hate that term) in that it was never a memorable blockbuster movie.

MOGHARR, it's about one of the most famous directors of all time who was famous, not for being good, but for being probably the worst filmmaker ever. He made Plan 9 From Outer Space which is usually held up as the worst movie ever made, amongst others that are so laughable bad, they're awesome.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 did a couple of his movies so you might know them from there. Outside of that though, he is an endearing and interesting character.

I can understand why people don't like it, because "Dead Man" another Johnny Depp movie is heralded all the time as this "visionary, creative film" and I just never got that vibe from it. I watched it multiple times, as my wife loves it, but I could just never understand why it achieved the status it has. I figured it to be a mediocre film at best, and could praise the fact it was made on a smaller budget, but other than that, it was 'meh.

I think Ed Wood is saved by Martin Landau's great performance, but Vincent D'Onofrio should not be allowed to play Orson Welles. Ever.

I'm going to watch this... hopefully today/tonight if I can find it quickly enough.

EDIT: Maurice LaMarche should play Orson Welles even if it looks weird, although with the right make-up and what not, it would look fine. I don't know about his presence in terms of acting, as I only know him from voice acting, although he did some stand up earlier in his career (not that that means much).

You made the thread about it prior to my reply to your first question and therefore before you said you would make a thread about it.

What gives?

My elitist opinion: Ed Wood is great, EDTV is horrible.

Dead Man has only achieved that huge praise because it's a Jim Jarmusch film. I hate the guy because his movies dont challenge the viewer at all, I feel like falling asleep all the time while watching his films. All aspects are even more dull than the experience of watching grass grow.

Well to be fair both D'Onofrio AND LaMarche played Wells. With LaMarche supplying the voice. I thought D'Onofrio looked EXACTLY like young orsen wells.

D'Onofrio was originally supposed to do the voice, but Burton wasn't pleased with the results. Apparently D'Onofrio was REALLY upset about being dubbed over.

And the movie is awesome.

He seems to really nail it every so often, but he's got a wicked case of Britishy Actor-Voice that's completely unlike Welles.

Right now there are 9 votes... on a Pop Culture website with a movie in the top 250 on IMDB, almost everyone should have at least seen part of this movie by now.

If you didn't see it, go rent it today!
