This is the best anti-drug ad I have ever seen in my life.

Not that he necessarily IS, but damn he sure acts like it.

Well, there is a some speculation as to whether or not it is a work a la Andy Kaufman. But Phoenix does have a history of being very bizarre. On top of that, he started acting weird(er) in October when he retired to become a rapper. How long does a hoax last if it really is a work? Also, he was there to promote a movie, which he didn't really do.

At any rate, whether it was real or not, it was funny as shit. Letterman is always good at carrying shitty guests though it's usually at their expense.

I actually thought it was a work at first too, or something to promote a movie, or just him goofing off for a while. But yeah, its lasted way to long to be that (imo.) I think he may have actually gone off the deep end. (Or at the very least, just doesn't give a shit about his image or his career anymore.) Kind of reminds me of Jeff Goldblum in "Philadelphia," if anyone's seen that. (If you haven't, I recommend it.)

But yeah, it was still pretty damn funny. In a sad kind of way, but like you said, Letterman rarely lets an interview he's giving get too bad.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen it, here is a clip where he talks about retiring. In this clip he reminds me of David from Roseanne.

Yeah. Some of the funniest shit I've seen in a while. Still not better than Matt Damon on Jimmy Kimmel, though both have admitted that was a work.

I'd read about this in the AP< but hadn't seen it yet. The way he looks now reminds me of a cross between Belushi as one of the Blues Brothers and Peter Jackson before the weight loss.

And as you just demonstrated, it hit their parents when they were naming their kids. Rain Joan of Arc Bottom can only be topped by Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen Zappa. I tried to name my kid He-Man Strongest Man in the Universe but my wife excercised her veto option.

I believe it is just an act if it wasn't Letterman would have been much more serious like he is when something really is a miss.

I think it's possible, but that would mean that like every other one of his interviews is a work. He is always doing off the wall shit. There is some clip on youtube where he falls off a stage. He is just a strange guy. He comes from probably one of the weirdest families in the history of ever. So it could be a work, but it wouldn't be surprising at all if it wasn't.

Also, Dave does poke at people who come on his show and appear to be under the influence.

Well yeah but the youtube clip is also after he said he was retiring, I think the whole thing as in the WHOOLE thing. The rumor that Casey affleck (his brother in law) is filming everything he does for a "documentary" instead of getting him help then I think he is fine.

Yeah, I do think that if Casey thought he was having problems, he would be trying to get him help rather than filming him doing fucked up shit.

It's still funny as hell whether it's fake or not. Kind of like the video of the lady talking about the government putting rainbows in our water. Maybe it's real, maybe it's fake, but it sure is funny.

I don't think Joaquim seems that out of it. It seems to me that he doesn't want to be there and he's disinterested with answering dumb questions. When Dave starts in with his tired antics and 100 year old one liners, it's not that Phoenix doesn't understand what's going on; it's that Dave is a banal idiot who isn't funny.

I think Joaquim is just tired of being famous as an actor.

Yeah, I get that. He's never seemed like he really enjoyed being famous. He really is a solid actor though. If he really is retired, it's a shame.

I did kind of enjoy the part where Letterman says something like "We can hang out and chew gum." And then Joaquin says "I won't chew the gum." And sticks it to Letterman's desk.
