Imagine an entity devouring its way through your city destroying all targets with accurate, almost Mozart-like precision, but completely wasted. That my friends is the Children Of Bodom sound.
While I realize that Alexi Laiho's voice is alienating to some, I ask you when did heavy metal become about vocals? I may love Ozzy Osbourne but on the Black Sabbath debut he was an average vocalist at best. He obviously improved since then and so has Laiho Metal is about the kick-ass instrumentation, which Bodom has in fucking spades.

 Best Album: Hatebreeder

Best records: Children Of Decadance, Lake Bodom, Downfall, Angels Don't Kill

CoB is meh. I saw them a few years ago when they opened for Slayer (I think?)
I used to be really into them but they are mediocre at best. The last time I saw them I think they opened for Megadeth and it was very boring. I only like one of their songs and I don't know the name of it.

On Chaos Ridden Years - Stockholm Knockout Live the lead guitarist / singer dude and the keyboardist kiss, the keyboardist explained it in broken english, blaming the homoerotic exchange on the intensity of the metal music . Now I love metal and especially love it when it gets intense, you know headbanging and thrusting of the metal horns and what not, but kissing another dude? Nu uh no thanks. |

I haven't seen the DVD but who the fuck cares?

I also forgot to mention COB's ability to cover any non-metal song and make it sound AMAZING.

I like the dueling banjos style back and forth guitar / keyboard solos.

I tend to think of COB as a better version of Dragonforce. The guitars aren't as artificial sounding, and the melodies are more interesting.
I like DF in small amounts (particularly while going for a run), but COB is able to match their intensity while remaining interesting throughout an entire album.

I'll agree with that, I picked up Ultra Beatdown based off of the youtube clip I saw in these forums a few threads back and I've yet to listen to the whole thing, but Follow the Reaper stays in the player until it's finished.

I've got one Bodom album, "Follow the Reaper", and it's really good. I've heard their newer stuff, and it's just not as good. "Are You Dead Yet?" was disappointing. Laiho's a good guitarist, albeit a mediocre vocalist. I still need to pick up "Something Wild."

It came up on chat, guess I'll bring it up here.
The Bodom cover of Rebel Yell is fucking awesome.

I've only ever heard that Laiho is an overrated guitarist by many, but other than that I havn't heard anything.

Hatebreeder is one of my top albums, and out of 94+ days of music, that's saying something! I lost interest in the band in recent years, but I play their first 3 albums fairly often. Sometimes the 4th gets in the rotation as well.

One of my students tried to tell me that the keyboardist for this band is better than Jordan Rudess. I laughed at him.

I have no idea who Jordan Ruddess is, but I'd probably laugh at that student too.
