Actually I rabidly watch Avatar, but you can rest happy knowing the series officially ended last night.

Sponegebob was a very funny cartoon, full of comedy and sexual innuendo, but then they started dumbing it down and it went dowhill from there.
As for Cartoon Network, I loved Johnny Bravo. I mean the dude just basically loved his mom and tried getting pussy 24/7.
Billy and Mandy was an awesome fucking show.
Chowder and Flapjack is funny shit. |
Johnny Bravo was the fucking man. That was my favorite show back in the day, along with (the oft-maligned) Cousin Skeeter.
Billy and Mandy was all right, it had its moments, but a lot of the time it was dumb.
You still can't get better than when they had Rocko's Modern Life.

Well, I'll speak for myself because I'm relatively young (19).
I grew up with Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, Doug, Rocco's Modern Life, Rugrats, etc. I would religiously watch Doug. Once shows like Invader Zim started coming on, (after Angry Beavers/Hey Arnold) I stopped watching. I couldn't stand watching crap cartoons where I didn't care about any of the characters. Rugrats Grown Up ended it for me, I couldn't stand seeing teenage Tommy.
I loved Kablam as well though, great show.
My all-time favorite Cartoon is Doug though, HANDS-DOWN. I loved each character on the show, Doug, Skeeter, Patti,Porkchop, Roger, Beebe, Judy, Mr. Dink, Chalky, oh man, all of them... <3 I cannot BELIEVE there are only 54 episodes (two sub-episodes per episode). It seemed like there was over 200 of them. I can't wait for the DVD release of these, if ever.

I hated Doug, mostly cause the first episode I saw involved them singing "Killer Tofu", prompting me to turn off the television.

Then IMO it started going to crap when Rugrats started coming on, man I hated that show. And I agree, Amanda Bynes is awful. I always thought Roundhouse sucked, too. |
I agree.

When Rugrants started coming on was the same time they started airing Ren and Stimpy.

+1 for a great topic.
My view may be a bit shortsighted because I was never a huge Nick watcher in the first place, but for me it lost all interest when they fucked up the Saturday Night Snick lineup. Clarissa Explains it All, Roundhouse, Ren and Stimpy (although I was never a fan of that one) and AYAODD were the shit. I miss that.

As I said, I like Spongebob and FOP, that's it.
Rugrats? Sucked? Are you fucking kidding me? All 3 of the original '91 Nicktoons- Doug, Rugrats, and Ren & Stimpy, were all of top quality. CatDog (even though I liked it) was the REAL start of the bad ones.
In my opinion, Nick's best years were 1991-2002.

Probably towards the mid 90's for me. I loved the older stuff a lot. When we didn't get the channel my grandparents would tape some episodes back in the mid 80's and send us the tapes. Our cable company started carrying the channel in 1991. I enjoyed stuff like Salute Your Shorts, Wild & Crazy Kids, whatever show took place at some high school, and most of the SNICK shows. I got tired of it when all the cartoons started to suck.

Yeah, I saw this episode where it snows and the camera pans across a bunch of funny snowmen ( Mr. Krabs has a snow dollar) and there's a flat-chested snow- mermaid and some kids next to her holding 2 head-sized snowballs.

I'm not sire which it was. They had various little skits. I remember a couple of them. There was one where these kids were in gym class and they were like "I really wish we could pump iron." The coach hears this and the next day he is like "You said you wanted to pump iron!? Well pump that iron!" He had them ironing clothes and whatnot.
They also had one where one of the dumber kids scored really well on some test. They decide to let him speak at some school event where he makes a fool of himself. The principal and his secretary later find out that the computer he took test on felt badly for the kid being such an idiot so it gave him a better grade.

Holy shit, Kablam! I had completely forgotten about that. Seeing that picture totally took me back. Damn good times.
I love Doug, as well. Quail Man rules!

I remember when it was created. I was so excited that there was a channel with shows I could watch all the time!
But it is true, they are the type of shows that you grow out of... well most people at least.
I stopped watching at some point near the end of elementary school.

I stopped watching Nickelodeon around the time the following things happened:
- they finally stopped showing reruns of Salute Your Shorts
- "Doug" became "Disney's Doug".
- the glorious timeframe where you could've called Nick the Rugrats Channel
I think the only thing that brings me back to Nickelodeon is Spongebob. I like it. There, I said it. Anyone else catch the Pantera episode? (yes, it's true).
Also, and it may be because the nerd in me likes the Aquabats and I have a two year old son, but Yo Gabba Gabba... I've said too much already.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |
