Check out this article, then read:
Here are some things to note:
1. At no point in this article do they say what Obama's answer to the question was. It may be in the video, but like most people who read the news ticket at work, I can't watch the video. I also don't like video news stories anyway, I want to read.
2. This guy's "reward" has absolutely nothing to do with the question he was asked
3. If the article accurately describes the scene, this kid said "Thank you, Lord Jesus" while standing face to face with President Obama. If there's video of that, people are going to be showing it over and over again out of context.
Most importantly, however, is that this kid is one of the problems with America. He said that getting this one day gig was the happiest moment of his life, besides getting his PS3 for Chrismtas. Coming from a 19 year old, this is a clear sign that the kid is not in college. Kid works a minimum wage job in the fast food industry and wants job benefits? Move up to management. That, or go to school and actually learn to do something. The job market may not be great, but you're asking for something for nothing. The douchebag basically said "I do the absolutely minimum amount of work possible, something that is routinely done by 14 year olds, and I want YOU, Mr. President, to give me job benefits".
Stop asking for handouts, asshole.

Getting an NES was probably the happiest day or mine. I don't think I ever wanted anything in this world as much as I wanted an NES, and I can't imagine I ever will again.

Michelle Malkin was talking about this all day on her blog, but I didn't know what she was talking about, because of the aforementioned problems with watching video at work.
She spun it as part of the "savior" based economy that some people say Obama is creating:
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/11/barack-obamas-savior-based-economy/
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/11/and-now-julio-gets-a-job/
The guy sounds and acts like an idiot, and from that short video, he seems like a guy who should be working at a McDonalds. I'm sure that sounds a bit callous, but the guy is stupid enough to practically thank God in the middle of the Town Hall for just being able to ask Obama a question
Besides, like Jeebus mentioned, the conflict between being a college student and wanting full-time worker benefits is ridiculous. I'm assuming that college is a community college, and that he's a part-time student.
Work 40 hours a week in an office, and waste time each week commuting, and then you can get cheap medical & dental from your employer like me. God forbid someone earns something instead of being given it by the Father-knows-best government.

I have read through all three articles in this thread, and honestly, everyone is blowing this way out of proportion. The "Thank Jesus" article is talking about how seemingly Obama influenced event to help these people, when he honestly didn't do all that much. The woman and her son were put in contact with the housing officials.
And then we have this Osegueda guy. It seems to me that he asked a perfectly legitimate question, as it boils down to "How are you going to help me?" which is in itself harmless. After all, it is a natural instinct to want one's self to be protected before worrying about others. Yeah, he did thank god when Obama called on him, but he is 19, pumped up with testosterone and adrenalin, and is talking to the president. Put yourself in his shoes, but replace Obama with someone you idealize, and understand that odds are you would have motormouth too.
The real crime here is the fact that this isn't news... at all. Obama answered some questions, a guy got a job because of the exposure, and a State Representative offered someone a house. Only the last one is even remotely news worthy. And you know what? That Republican blog isn't helping either. It isn't like Obama fucked up, he answered some questions and did little things that may make some people's lives easier. Oh noes, he is combining church and state to fix the economy.
In short, just let the story die, because it is stupid no matter how you try to spin it.

Was the guy's question really that legitimate? His question was "I work a minimum wage job. Will you give me free benefits?" That's not the government's job to do, and Obama's answer (having now watched the video) doesn't really address that.
As for the guy marking out and thanking God just for being called out, the guy is a tool. He was even wearing an Obama shirt, if you noticed.
You're right that this isn't really newsworthy, however, but since it made the news I had to comment on how ridiculous the story was and point out everything wrong with this. You have to realize that shit like this is giving Obama a lot of undeserved goodwill with the American people. That's not to say that he's fucking up, but news stories shouldn't be trying to give him credit or blame for things that he isn't doing. The left would have you believe that Obama parted the Red Sea for Moses, and the right would have you believe that he put Hitler into power. I'd like the news to actually focus on what he is doing.
For example: when Obama was trying to push the stimulus bill through, there was almost no talk about what was in the stimulus bill and whether it was good or bad. The news was all about either Obama trying to save us or the Republicans standing together to try to stop Obama. None of that was really informative or helpful to the American people.

1. Maddox sucks.
2. If you have to start naming local network affiliates to make your list seem long, you're probably trying to prove an invalid point.
3. The vast majority of print media and television is liberal. Don't forget to include things that aren't necessarily "news" sources. The vast majority of talk radio is conservative (or sports). Where do the majority of people get their news? With CD's and iPods and streaming audio, people never even need to listen to the radio at this point, so we're constantly being bombarded by the liberal media outlets whereas one has to actively seek out conservative media outlets.
This isn't to say I'm a conservative or Republican, because I'm not. I'm just interested in people getting accurate, unbiased information and being allowed to make their own decisions instead of being told what to think.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Julio was a plant? Obama is all like "Oh golly, I've only got time for one more question.... how about you?"
And then he calls on a guy wearing a shirt that compares Obama to Dr. King. If this kid's so worried about money and job benefits, what the fuck is he doing wasting $20 on an Obama t-shirt? And clearly his family isn't doing that badly if his parents can afford not only to send him to college, but to buy him a $600 game console for Christmas. And if you watch the clip, Julio comes off as completely cartoonish and rehearsed. That means he's either a plant, an opportunistic attention whore hoping to use national exposure to his advantage, or a complete fucking idiot. Personally, I think he's all three.

That response comes off as intelligently as any other Maddox fan's would have. Dunno why I would bother debating when you have such a steel clad argument.

1. Maddox has some great stuff, some okay stuff, and some completely dumb stuff; Haddox is no different.
2. The list was dumb and by no means proves a dominant conservative bias in the news. Because there isn't one. Also, fun fact: pundits are not the media.

Which is exactly my point on why raving about the "liberal media" is stupid. For the record, in regards to the actual story, I will agree that there is something suspicious about it (perhaps Jose is the Democrats "Joe The Plumber") I just get beyond irritated when I hear someone complain about "the liberal media" and how it apparently has a stranglehold over news. And yea, Maddox isn't flawless 100% of the time, but in his regards to the idea of a ubiquitous "liberal media" I agree completely that there's no such thing.

See, then whether or not his question was legitimate or not comes down to whether you lean to the left or the right of the political spectrum. I believe it doesn't matter how much money you earn, if you are working hard you should have benefits, and that the government should enforce that. I would also rather have some lazy people take advantage of the system if it does reward those who are hard working. It comes down to party ideals rather then intelligence.
I also don't think he is a tool for being so exciting by being called on. He is a 19 year old guy who probably has some illusions of grandeur, but we all do that about people we admire. This is probably something we are just going to have to agree to disagree on.
As for the stimulus bill, yeah, the media has grossly mishandled that. News blows these days, because people don't want news anymore, they want sides to root for, and opinions are the easiest way to set up sides.

Pundits are indeed part of the media.
Fun fact: Dora the Explorer is also part of the media.
And Nihilistic, hardworking people should get job benefits, but that's the responsibility of the employer, not the federal government. If a particular employer does not offer job benefits then they will lose their valuable and hardworking employees to other companies within that industry that do offer benefits. With the state of the economy that may be easier said than done, but that does not mean the responsibility then falls to the federal government to provide for everyone. After all, these are job BENEFITS, not rights granted to us in the constitution. The federal government's job is to fix the economy, and they're not going to do that by pouring a ton of money that we don't even have into welfare programs.

OH yeah, and there's an important thing that I haven't seen mentioned much and had to actively search to find it. At least 20 states are trying to declare sovereignty (not cede from the nation) and regain states rights as per the 10th amendment because this stimulus bill is such a load of bullshit. While there's a good chance nothing will come out if, that seems like a really, really newsworthy occurrence.

See, this will need of being another thing we will have to agree to disagree on, as it seems to be a different in what the government's job is. I don't trust companies enough to reward those who work hard, and believe the government should be doing something about that.

A government that's big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take it all away.
The government's job is to protect us each other and protect us from hostile foreign forces. It is NOT the government's job to protect you from yourself. If you're lazy and spendthrift, it is absolutely not the government's job to pat you on the back, say "There, there, it's all right", and give you a cookie so you don't starve to death.

Remember, I lean pretty far to the left, so yeah, I wouldn't mind socialism that much. That being said, I know socialism isn't the most popular form of government and probably wouldn't go over well with a good portion of the country, so I am not in a rush to see the government change.
And Syd, I don't think think it is the government's job to help those who dig themselves into a hole, but there are hardworking people who get fucked over too, and those are the ones I want to see helped. I would rather help a bunch of lazy assholes if it helped even a few of the hard workers.
