On Xbox live, I made my avatar look like Steve Urkel. When people see it, they might not know for sure that is who it is, but since most people aren't going to depict themselves wearing suspenders and nerd glasses and skinny as a rail, I thought it was kind of obvious.

Anyways, I was playing Uno with a friend from my hometown. Some guy (teenager?) comes in the game. He asks me if I'm black. I said no. He asked me why my character was black. I just told him I was half black (I'm not really) just so he would stop asking questions. If he couldn't tell it was supposed to be Urkel, I wasn't going to tell him. So then he asks if I'm a zebra. Now I'm starting to get what's going on here. I just said sure whatever because I thought maybe he was kidding around. That is when he says this to me word for word.

"Sorry. I can't play with black people."

What the fuck? I'm not black, but I immediately became offended. Before I could say anything back to him, he abruptly exits. I'm pissed. I can understand (not really cause its still bullshit) if maybe he had some racist bastards for parents and if they caught him playing with a black person he would get the shit beat out of him or whatever. But for some punk ass kid to call me a zebra and say he can't play with black people, that's horseshit. He sounded like a scrawny punk and I'm guessing he wouldn't say that to anybody's face.

I guess I shouldn't be that surprised. I see racism all over the internet. But I had never experienced anything like that on a game server before. Has anyone else experienced or seen this kind of shit?

Racial slurs don't generally bother me. But I guess that's easy for me to say, I don't usually have people taking shots at me for being white. But depending on the context, I could care less. I know people talk like that and it's not going away. I've seen a few rednecks get their asses kicked for droping the N word. I also see a lot of racism on chat rooms and message boards. But it's usually some troll trying to piss everyone off. But even then, you can't usually tell if it is someone who is really racist or just some prick looking for some negative attention. But I have rarely seen that kind of racism where someone does something like ouright refuses to play an online game with someone. Chat rooms.

My favorite part was this guy said he was sorry. "Sorry, but I don't play with black people." It's like he was saying, "I'd like to appologize because I hate the color of your skin." or "I hate you for no real reason but don't take it personally." He didn't even drop the N word. It's like he was trying to courtious about being a racist. Where do these people come form?

I suppose he could be a badass. But he didn't sound very old and didn't sound very big. I know you can't always determine that from someones voice, but most people I've come across with a voice like that were either smaller, younger, or both. I'm not saying neither young people nor smaller people can't be badasses. But I haven't met very many I would think twice about punching in the jaw if I thought I had a good reason. I'm not trying to sound like an internet badass, but I can hold my own. Also, by the tone in his voice and the fact that he was appologitic in telling me he was a racist would seem to indicate he isn't very confrontational.

Also, he didn't sound like he was from the south. I'm from Missouri and even people from around here have more of a southern accent than this guy did. I would guess he was from someplace with very few minorities. I would think refusing to interact with black people is something that would be nearly impossible in places where they make up a sizable percent of the population.

Because its something I can play with my friends from back home that is cheap and we all like. Even my friends that are girls like it.

Also, I can't play co-op or do teams online. I have a two year old. I could elaborate, but instead I'll just say if you ever have a two year old, you'll understand what this means. It's much easier to play a game like Uno with a two year old around than having some asshole cuss you because you had to put the controller down in the middle of a battle to take care of your kid.
