HAHA that sucks. And i thought it was bad that when i bought a new main drive it somehow got designated as h: instead of c:
Mostly it works fine but a LOT of windows apps cant find stuff because it defaults to c:

Plug the hard drive back in you fucking quitter.
1. Open a command prompt with admin privledges.
2. Type DISKPART
3. Type LIST DISK
You will need to determine which one of the listed disks is the new one you just put in. For the sake of this document lets say it is listed as Disk 1 (most likely Disk 0 is the OS hard drive).
4. Type SELECT DISK 1
5. Type CLEAN
6. Type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
7. Type SELECT PARTITION 1
8. Type ACTIVE
9. Type ASSIGN LETTER=E
(you can change E to whatever drive letter you want)
10. If you have Windows Vista type: FORMAT FS=NTFS
11. Type EXIT
12. If you have Windows XP, you need to right click on My Computer, select manage, click Disk Management, right click on disk E and then select Format. Do NOT select a quick format.
If the disk is busted, the formatting will fail.
Also the correct way to run a disk check is to use the command: CHKDSK C: /r
R implies F and will fix the drive if it can.

I had a secondary hard drive die on my six months ago after I accidentally hit the power strip. I think it shorted out or something. Anyone know a good data recovery service?

I remember there was this British Company that was able to do data recovery on even the most corrupt of drives, it was pretty amazing after I had used about 10 different programs to recover it and no luck.It was able to see everything. The company had some genius dude working for them who created an algorithem for data recovery up to 95-99 percent.
The catch was that they charged an insane amount by the gigabyte and there was absolutely no way to crack the program

This is the best option if you want to try it yourself.

This is the best option if you want to try it yourself and don't want to pay.
If the data is worth more than $2000 to you, it might be worth sending it out to a professional company.

If you are looking for a good and not expensive recovery program, I'd recommend you Advanced File Recovery. I'm always satisfied with the quality and simplicity of this program.

A program won't work. The computer doesn't recognize the hard drive is there anymore, either due to a problem with the hard drive itself or a problem with the section of the motherboard it's connect to.
