While I like the new Sonic games, the old ones are where it's all at. The one I liked the most is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, though I never played Sonic CD.

Hell, I even bought a Sonic the Hedgehog shirt at Hot Topic.

Most of the newer ones I have played haven't been too enjoyable, although I played through all of Sonic Adventure 2 for completion's sake. I bought Sonic and the Secret Rings or Seven Rings or whatever and after the first few levels, I couldn't stand it anymore. Sonic rail game? Please.

Original Sonic ftw, even if running at high speeds felt like an epileptic seizure at times lol.

I haven't played any of the newer ones. I have (perhaps falsely?) been warned away from them. Perhaps it worth giving them a shot though. I always did love the character itself. Cute, and has a lot of potential for fun.

Truth be told, I don't play Sonic games for the high-speed action, but just to get the job done if I can. And the more characters I can do it as, the better.

Does Sonic Advance count as one of the new ones? Technically it's relatively new, but it uses the same formula as the 2D ones. I much prefer the older 2D games, although I've been hearing good things about the new Sonic RPG on the DS.

The Sonic Advance series was actually decent. Just I don't necessarily recommend trying Sonic Genesis on GBA. Don't know why I bought that game anyways. The engine was totally redone to negative effect, the sounds been butchered, and the graphics are too big for the GBA processor to handle. Yeah, just play one of the Sonic Advance or Sonic Rush games instead.

The last sonic game I really enjoyed was Sonic Adventure 2. I've played the newer ones and wasn't too impressed.

It's actually quite good. It's at least worth a shot.

I liked all the games.

Then Sonic Heroes came along.

I was disappointed, but figured hey, every series has it's hiccups, particularly when they try something new.

Then Shadow the the Hedgehog came out.

Sonic is dead to me now.

Yes they are.

Bust because you like them doesn't make them good games.

I should know, I like a lot of bad games myself.

Popularity doesn't make a good game.

There wasn't a choice for "I think Sonic is A Douche." I dont really like the Sonic Games, maybe the first and second, but that was only because I was duped by the "blast processing." On the other hand, I do love Sonic's Restaurant.

Yes.

I'm not a fan of ALL the games, but I love the originals, SA1 &2, and the DS ones. Plus there's a few I haven't played.

Well, I've played most of the sonic games, including the new ones. I enjoy the new ones maybe based solely on the fact I want to. I know that is bad but I am desperate Very Happy

The older ones were far better, true. But honestly, some of the new ones are good. I've...I've played the GBA ones... They are actually very good. I know "Blah blah blah new character with every game." Well you know whaT? in EVERY sonic game they introduce a new character. It's just something they do. The gameplay was good and the graphics were good for the GBA.

The next Sonic game for me to get is the DS one. I have heard good things and I'm glad a Sonic RPG is finally a reality. Although, I remember reading about one a while back... I think they changed the characters at the last second. Hmmmm/

When I was a young Nintendo fanboy, only owning a NES and a SNES, I always wanted to play Sonic. Sort of a "grass is always greener on the other side" thing, I guess. I enjoyed playing it at friends' houses, but I was never very good at it. Later, when I got into emulation, I was finally able to play all the Sonic games... and realize, I don't much like the series. While speeding through a level is good, mindless fun, I prefer knowing what's coming at me and spending time exploring a level for all of its secrets. I know that you do that in the later games, like the GBA and DS ones, but it just seems like it's contradicting its own gameplay style at that point.

Sonic on consoles is pretty much dead to me after playing the piece of crap that was Sonic '06. It's strictly a "demo or rent" thing now.

I like the handheld ones through and through though (since the GG) and I think the only good modern ones are the GBA/DS games-- even though their level design pales to the Genesis trilogy, it at least approaches what I loved about the old Sonics, which the modern console ones fail to do.

Unleashed would've been better with all day stages even if it made the game like just 2-3 hours long.

Also, Sonic Chronicles is shit. Fetchquesting like hell, a stupid battle system whose touch controls suck compared to Mario & Luigi, and the whole game reeks of fan-projectness.

I was in Target the other day and they had a Sonic game on discount (Just "Sonic The Hedgehog" IRC) so I picked it up just to see if it looked any good; took one look at the back which showed Shadow, Sonic and some retarded looking white hedgehog, as well as shots of Shadow on his motorcycle, and put it right back like it burned me. What the hell happened to Sonic?

Yup, that one's Sonic '06... avoid. AT ALL COSTS.

Also, the white one you're talking about is Silver the Hedgehog.

Silver the Hedgehog.

A psychic Sonic with the mind of Tails and the strange lady-getting ability of Knuckles. Also: He is silver and his NAME is Silver. Clever.

I SWEAR TO ALLAH that I read a fan-fic that had the SAME EXACT CHARACTER a few years before the game came out.

Which isn't surprising. It sounds EXACTLY like a Mary Sue to me.
