I have noticed some games I didn't seem to lose any skill at, however, these are games I still pull out from time to time to play, so I'm mostly fresh with them.

I'm still good at Pilotwings, better even than I once was. Turtles In Time too, but I think we're all still good at that one Very Happy

Every time I see this thread I think it's gonna be about the yoga poses in Wii Fit.

I used to PWN in fighting games, but that Gen-An faggot in Samurai Shodown kicked my ass with his claw drill move and generally being quicker than me...I tried about every trick in the book against him. Mindless button mashing, combos, ect. And the chance to disarm is like 1/7 in this game, and I don't know how I could blatantly trigger the disarming sequence.

I'd like to see today's gamers play something like Dragon Warrior for the NES. You'll be spending quite a bit of time working your butt off for a sword and a shield.

No way. People today bitch if they have to grind at all. No way they could play the first Dragon Warrior. Maybe, 2-4 on the NES. That is only because there is other stuff to do while grinding levels. The first one has almost nothing. There may be a few that could do it, but not many.

I think the primary reason behind that specific example is that Dragon Warrior's battles are simply too boring. Stuff like "CAM attacks!" was never really enough for me. As games got older, however, the battles became much more entertaining and interactive (the best example being The World Ends With You, where you can level-grind for hours upon hours no end and still be completely addicted).

I can agree with this. The thing is that when I first played Dragon Warrior, there weren't many other games to play. I can completely understand why somebody wouldn't want to play it with all of the better games available. But the game is a big reason why I always overlevel while I hear some people complain about spending any extra time at all leveling up.

Yeah, i really think grinding should be re-introduced into mainstream RPGs.

Now everyone and their retarded sister is some magical UBERGOD and just didnt know it, and every enemy shits out gold and legendary armor.

And never again will a boss inconvenience you by not having a fucking save point right outside his door, that would make him a terrible host now wouldnt it?

The best part about the DW games was that they DIDNT give you a game over if you died, noooo that would be TOO easy. Instead they fuck over your bank account AND still make you pay to rez your team. Nothing helps temper a iron will like having to grind for days to afford the weapon you NEED to kill a boss only to lose half your fucking work about 5 minutes before youre done because some asshat monster casts Defeat and it works.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to think this.

Now, maybe I'm playing the wrong RPGs, but it seems like grinding IS in most RPGs. At least JRPGS, which seems to be the topic at hand. The difference these days is you can usually 'get through the game' with a minimum of grinding. But if you, for instance, want to make all the items in Vesperia, or unlock everything on Last Remnant, you end up doing a lot more grinding than you would if you were just following the plot.

I think this is the best of both worlds. Story gamers can follow the story largely uninterrupted, and system / grind gamers can play with the system to their heart's content and still have a 'purpose'.

I'm decent with a keyboard, but nothing beats the good ol' D-pad. I usually play emulators on my PSP or Wii, just to avoid the annoying keyboard.
