* No time limits.
• Not restricted to a single save file.
• Frank can only carry one melee weapon at a time.
• More emphasis on firearms and collecting ammo.
• Frank cannot jump.
• No photography.
That is all.

Actually, that's not all. It also uses the Resident Evil style over the shoulder camera. The lack of jumping is a big letdown, though I suppose it doesn't gel well with the new camera angles. The lack of photography is mindboggling, seeing as Frank is a fucking photographer.
People will whine about it, but no time limits is actually pretty cool. I hated how it was physically impossible to do everything in the original game.

I agree with Syd on that. I LIKE the no time limits.
And all the changes have been done to make the wii version more... watered down so it is like the rest of the crap on the wii. :/ Honestly. They needed this to go well.

Actually, the changes were made to justify the game's existence. The game is coming out, what, two years after the 360 version? In order to make the game marketable they needed to change it drastically enough that it would be a complete different gameplay experience. The main issue here is whether or not the game will be fun and control well. If it is, fine.
The game is not, however, watered down by any means. All of the missions will remain intact, and there will be new enemies, items, and weapons. The photography stuff, while fun, did nothing but unlock XBox acheivements. And despite early rumors that the game could only support 15 enemies on screen at once, it will support 100 on screen at once.

One melee weapon? WTF? One of the things that made Dead Rising so awesome was the vast assortment of melee weapons, and now you can only hold one at a time? Fail.

Nothing beats a nice round of guitar bashing. Although no jumping means no jump attacks. I think I'll pass on this version, since I already have the original.

I'm not against porting down to the Wii, but this game really doesn't look like it had much effort put into it. It just doesn't look that great.
But I'll probably rent it. I could be wrong.

The save thing sounds good. I hated on the Xbox 360 version you could only have one save per storage device. Some of the other stuff is kind of dumb, no jumping and only one weapon.

Not one weapon at a time; one melee (close range) weapon at a time. I guess it's kind of a pain in the ass, but at the same time, there are so many melée weapons readily available that it shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah there are a ton of possible weapons. I remember being kind of disappointed that some of the stuff that should have been a weapon were just part of the scenery and you couldn't pick up stuff that really should have been a weapon.

I'm just really disappointed that you can't hold more than one type at a time...no more holding a manniquin torso, a katana, a mini chainsaw, and a laser sword for me!
And what's up with not jumping? No jumping means no jump kicks, knee drops, or wall kicks.
The way I see it, the only improvement they made was the save thing.

The game is running off the RE4 engine and using the over the shoulder camera angle. I believe they felt jumping didn't work well with from this angle. Photography was apparently removed for this reason. The new camera angle drastically changes the gameplay. You won't be able to see guys until they're in a much closer proximity to you, especially guys that come up behind you. Come to think of it, that makes melee weapons more important...

Hey, photography did more than just get achievements, you earn experience for each shot too depending on how good of a shot it is. Sounds like they're mangling the hell out of a great game in the name of porting.

Basically, this sounds like an RE4 mod. RE4 was a great game, don't get me wrong, but it definitely wasn't Dead Rising. It doesn't even sound like they're downporting, just being lazy and refusing to change up the gameplay of the engine they're using for the port. But hell, even Leon had an inventory!

I'm actually beginning to get tired of the behind-the-shoulder perspective. RE4, MGS3: Subsistance, Cold Fear, and now Dead Rising...

Besides, the Wii needs some good exclusives thrown at it. Not that this game qualifies as one.

It could qualify as one. We won't really know until reviewers tell us what to think. What people need to realize is that this isn't a port; it's a retelling of the Dead Rising story, not unlike the GCN remake of Resident Evil. Will this game work as well as the REmake? Maybe, maybe not. It'll be interesting though. Also keep in mind that Capcom is the one company that HASN'T let us down with its Wii ports/remakes. RE4 and Okami were both fantastic on the Wii.

Yeah but retelling the story by cutting pretty much everything that made it interesting and turning it into RE4 lite isn't the way to make a great exclusive.

I think it will still be a good game for those who have not played the Xbox 360 version. Still though since I've played the Xbox version the no jumping thing still bugs me. When I first played it I was on the second level of the mall near where you start from. There was a sporting goods store and a food court on that level. Zombies were coming up both sets of stairs and I was surrounded. The only way to get out for me was to jump down to the lower level. I'm sure they have something to compensate for the lack of jumping. Less zombies maybe, maybe they move slower so you can navigate the stairs when they are on them or something along those lines.

There are no story changes; there are gameplay changes.
The lack of jumping is weird, but it will make the game significantly more challenging.
The lack of photography is inconsequential, and due to the new camera angle.
The inability to carry more than one melée weapon, if true, is rather dumb, but realistic. If you were trapped in a mall with a shitload of zombies, would you carry around a million melée weapons? No, you'd carry one at most, and a shitload of firearms.

I don't get the no photo thing. It's not like the camera didn't change in the original when photos were taken, and it's not like there weren't times when Leon zoomed a scope or something in on RE4.

Good point. Conventional wisdom says that they'll have to make the melee weapons much more durable to get good use out of them.
Another fault I find with the lack of jumping; no jumping means no crowd-surfing, which is going to make traversing through crowds much harder, unless they extend the duration of the Spinny Attack or make the Football Tackle go through multiple zombies.
