Don't get too scared. Apparently, Blagojevich, the man sans a plan, had considered Oprah Winfrey as one of the stronger candidates for taking Obama's Senate seat.

I don't think she would have taken the job. Holding public office prevents you from pursuing lucrative marketing opportunities.
After the sex club scandal destroyed GOP candidate Jack Ryan in the 2004 Illinois Senate race, Mike Ditka was approached by the Illinois GOP to accept the party's nomination. Ditka considered it, but decided he didn't to give up his lucrative endorsement deals. Test polls that were conducted around that time show that he easily would have won, too. So that's why we have President Obama now. Because Ditka didn't man up and take him on in 2004.

I still remember the announcement by Ditka that he wasn't going to run. 
I would have to kill myself if Oprah ever became a senator. It was bad enough that she was teaching a course at my alma mater while I was matriculating there.

I wouldn't imagine her taking it either, but the fact that she was considered makes me laugh a bit. I mean, such a consideration must be based mainly on rapport without any real context in my opinion.
If Obama does a good job, we'll have to send Ditka a Thank You card.

Well, let's think about it. If she DOESN'T take it, people will hate her, believing she could make a difference. Nobody would watch her show out of spite, and ratings will drop. She'll be fired, and Chris Crocker will take her place.
