They raised the prices in our food vending machines by a quarter. And the soda is now 75 cents when it was 65. As for food, like i wanna pay 75 cents for a pack of lifesavers
and the worst thing is that the vending machine prices in the teachers lounge are 45 cents.
Since my mom is a sub I can sneak up there and say I'm getting it for her if a teacher stops me but She doesn't always work there and I then have to buy from the 75 cents one
is this happening else where?

In Canada, even when the dollar was about on par with the U.S.'s, vending machine things like lifesavers were still 1.00 or 1.25. Everything has been raised here as well. I bet it has something to do with that little thing called poor economy.
Sales are decreasing so they need to make more on each sale. Nothing you can do about it really.

Complain complain complain. We lost soda all together last year, now we have this grape bullshit that tastes like medicine. As far as prices go, cans of stuff is 1.25 and bottles are 1.75

Seriously... why do they even offer you soda?

Hey, offering soda is a nice way to keep kids happy. My senior year of HS they put an ice cream vending machine in the cafe. We also had a jukebox (that was there for all 4 years...probably for like 2 decades actually, lol)

NEWS FLASH: Vending machines and stores like 7-11 NEVER have good prices. They mark up their prices based on the fact that they're conveniently located. If you want to get candy at a reasonable price, buy it at Wal*Mart or Target and bring it to school with you. Same goes with soda.

Offering fresh juice, water, and natural snack food is a way to keep kids healthy. And it doesn't have to taste like ass either.
Nothing wrong with junk food, just why offer it in place of good food.

They don't offer it in place of good food. The vending machines are an alternative to the federally mandated healthy food they serve in the lunch lines.

Last time I looked, the federally mandated "healthy" food they serve barely passes for "food" at all.

Also, I don't what the situation is in other states, but in Massachusetts, the state takes such a big chunk of everyone's money that no one wants to put any money into the local government, so schools are getting fucked over. Vending machines are a way for schools to get extra money.
Besides, kids are watching Sesame Street before they're old enough to talk and learning health eating habits from that. Then they learn about health and nutrition in school. Kids know what's healthy and what's not, and if they don't like what the school is serving, they can fucking bring their own lunch. And if you're eating poorly and out of shape, it's not the fucking school's fault. It's your parents' fault for instilling poor eating habits in you, but more importantly, it's your own fault for recognizing the problem and rising above it.

Until you have the ability to shop for your own food, you aren't in control. You aren't responsible for your eating habits, your parents are.
I agree, parents should instill better values and caution their children about proper diet and consumption habits.
Once you are old enough to shop for food, it is your own fault.
This doesn't change the fact that school lunches used to suck when I was going to school. They weren't healthy and barely passed for food.

Nothing wrong with having soda machines at Highschools, I agree with Jeebus' take on it. Besides, those things were a life saver for a borderline Narcoleptic like myself.

Yeah, nothing's better than grabbing a nice energy-inducing Coke between classes.
But yeah, it's up to $1.25 per can and $1.75 per bottle up here in ol' Canada, so no sympathy

Isn't stuff like this more suited for the "this shit irks the piss out of me thread"? I'm well aware of the ever-increasing prices of little debbie cakes, so this is no surprise to me. Food is getting more expensive unfortunately... vending machine soda is usually $1.75 for a bottle and $.75-1.00 for a can. Welcome to This World.

We had a variety of machines
but we also had Video games from when I was in 7th grade till 11th grade
I went to a Catholic Jr./Sr High School, all in one building.
And yes there was period of time they were clueless enough to have Mortal Kombat 2 in our Cafe
We also had Magic Sword at one point, WWF Wrestlefest, Street Fighter (the original only Ken or Ryu and Sagat final boss), Out Run, NBA Jam, and a few others I can't think of at the moment. Not all at the same time, only 2 at a time did we have usually, sometimes one. But it made them hella money and kept people happy, though a few fights were inevitable.

Fuck the vending machines, our high school had a candy store. You could also pay 50 cents to play their NES console.

Lunch was $1.50 for the hot lunch when I wasin HS, or you could pay $1.75 (as I did every day) for a sub. The subs had real bread, real deli meat, and real produce, and were well worth the extra 25 cents. Healthy food is available, you just have to choose it over pizza and other shit.

Yes, this is what I did when I had to eat at school. However, my high school had off campus lunch. We're located in a small town (where I still live) and there's McDonald's, Subway, Burger King, and 2 local pizza parlors all surrounding us. I would often just go home for lunch and eat regular food.

My school didn't even fucking have lunch my senior year.
EDIT: Yeah, my school didn't have off-campus lunch either. You had three options:
1. Bring your own lunch and eat it on campus.
2. Qualify for free lunch a be provided a shitty bologna sandwich.
3. Fucking starve.

Yeah, I thought everyone had off-campus lunch when I went to school. I was 16 as a sophomore, so I really only spent 1 year eating at school, in which my diet consisted of either a chili boat and coke, or powdered donuts and a coke. Oh wait, those burritos in a red package with questionable species of animal for meat was pretty good too.

Do you mean Chili Boat as in the potato with chili and cheese on it, or the one that is on a bun or bread? You are making me hungry.

Yes! I did subs and salads in high school for the most part.
