If we're counting games not explicitly based on existing properties, then Viewtiful Joe FTW.

Haven't you ever heard of sarcasm before? Most of the good ones have already been mentioned..... If you count the Ninja Turtles as superheroes, then add their games to the list. Otherwise, I got nothing. Except for Death and Return of Superman..... which obviously sucks hard ass.

I think the problem was everyone just immediately thinks of comic book superheroes.

Death and Return was a good game. Maybe not a great use of Superman, but a very good beat 'em up nonetheless.

I seem to recall a fairly decent Captain America arcade game that had Submariner as a playable character.

I don't know about one with Submariner, but I loved the "Captain America and the Avengers" arcade game.

That is the one I was thinking of. Cap and Iron Man are playable, and then for some reason they chose fucking Vision and Hawkeye as the other two playable characters. Sub-Mariner helps you out at one point, but he's not playable.

I happen to like both Vision and Hawkeye. One of my first comics when I was a little kid was Avenger Spotlight featuring Hawkeye fighting street gangs.

Great call with The Punisher for the arcade Syd. Just got it off your suggestion, having never played it, and it is incredible.
