Although I don't think anyone on this forum is one of the mentioned "miserable creatures," I do think that my favorite quote is appropriate here, as a kudos to sideway.
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -J.S. Mill

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

This is not something I say, EVER, for personal reasons, but I truly mean it when I say God Bless You, and I wish you nothing but the best safety, health, and luck!

Hey guys, just letting you know I made it here, been here for almost two weeks now. Besides getting mortared, it ain't so bad. Not a lot of chances to get online though, seeing all the new threads that I can't catch up on is driving me crazy. I think the site should shut down till I get back. Where's Space Fury when I need him? Iraq would be an easy opponent for him. Anyway, that's about all the time I have, just letting you all know I'm not dead. See ya.

Good to hear, Sideway. I hope the mortars weren't too close--or that you at least got your CIB/CAB out of the deal (or the equivalent for the service you're in.)
Continue to stay safe. We're all thinking of you.

Don't sweat it too much obviously. I have three friends in Iraq right now and one in Germany in the AF. They are getting by for sure. My closest friend fixes helicopters in the Marines, wiring and stuff, he says the worst part is the boredom. But he still manages to stay pretty sane. More computer time will come, he's online quite a bit nowadays.

Seconded. Good luck, sideway. You're out there doing what I could never possibly have the courage to do, and for that, I commend you.
