Okay, bought some RPG's and thought id make some comments on them all and ask a few questions.
I got about an hour or two in to Lunar: Dragon Song and decided to turn it off and put it back on my shelf. The story isnt captivating, theres stupid crap like running draining your HP and I generally just dont like it.
However, I got bored on Wednesday night and bought FF III for DS and the two classic NES series Zelda games for GBA. Im at the sixth dungeon on the first Zelda. Yeah, I consider myself a gamer and I have never beat the first Zelda.
I just hope that they ported StarTropics to this Classic NES series, so I can play it on my DS.
Is the FF III DS game the actual FF III or is it the SNES FF III?

It's the famicom one with completely redone graphics and some extras.

It's the real (Japanese) FF III. I just bought FFIV on DS new for the bargain price of $15 so I'm very much looking forward to playing that having heard so many great things about it. I wish they'd put FFVI on the DS though as I just can't seem to get into it either on PSone or via a SNES emulator.

They've been using the Japanese numbering since FFVII.

I bought Dragon Song shortly after it came out, but I wasn't that impressed with it. No connections with the other two Lunar games.

Yeah, the first two hours of the story just dont pull you in at all, and the intro itself is way too long and the stupid thing with the running draining your HP pisses me off.

I remember when they first anounce FFVII and everyone freaked out, demanding to know where the missing 3 games were?
II and III weren't really that memorable, they were just repolishs of I. V, however, was great and I can't understand why Square never brought it state side. It should have been US's FF 3, and VI should have been 4.

Probably because Japan thought that Final Fantasy V would be too hard for us, or something like that.

Unless I'm misinterpreting this, if you don't find FFVI interesting on PS1 or Super Nintendo what the hell makes you think the DS version will be any better, especially since IV had kiddie looking characters and shitty voice acting?

You did misinterpret it. I didn't say I never found the game interesting. Just, for some reason, I could never get into it using those platforms. It just didn't feel right to me playing it on PS1, and using an emulator to play a classic RPG on the computer also doesn't feel right. If I were using a real SNES, I'm sure that would have been fine.
The reason I have high hopes for playing on the DS is because the DS has rapidly become my favorite gaming platform. I can take it anywhere, play the game for a few minutes at a time, or play it in bed before I go to sleep which is my favorite place to play right now. I love the convenient portability. As I near 30, and have acquired a family, it's not as much fun for me to squat in front of a TV all by myself like it used to be when I was a kid.
Plus the DS' hardware capabilities make it feel more appropriate for the old school RPGs and thus, I'm more likely to get into them.
