I have been trying to get the software since last Friday. Finally it is working.

37% done with the 2.44GB DL.

I am eager to see what has been improved upon since Vista.

I will be installing it on a 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB of ram and an embedded graphics card. The system is a standard business machine, but should give a good idea about how the OS will work in the real world.

If you are trying the beta, please continue the conversation.

I installed Windows 7 build 7000 and have been toying with it.

So far, it is Windows Vista with a blue tint.

There are a few new features... like the Apple style dock that used to be the taskbar.

A few windows here or there have new reflective looking things.

This is Windows Mojave all over again.

Yeah... I have heard no good things about 7. And I know a lot of people doing the beta.

Hehehe. "It's like using a mac. Except crappier."

I like Vista, so I don't dislike 7.

I just don't see a difference.

Why do I always hear people say they hate Vista?

I'm not any kind of computer whiz, but it seems to work fine for me.

Man, what the hell? Didn't Vista just come out? Maybe I'm just out of the loop...

It's probably the constant bombardment of security prompts at times.

A huge point for Windows 7, and maybe a smack in Vista's face:

Games and applications seem to work smoother and run at better framerates over Vista, even using Vista drivers.

To me, Windows 7 seems to have keep the core of Vista, and remove all the extra fluff and bloatware, making it a far more streamed and optomized OS.

I liked Vista just fine, but this might be my new favorite Windows OS since 2000 Pro.

I hate new stuff, especially layout changes. What's this bullshit you mentioned about no taskbar!?

I'm pretty sure you can change that in the options. Just like in Vista, I have always used "Classic Start Menu" (The same layout used from Win 98 -> 2000 Pro)

People are all up in arms about the removal of the stationary application in Outlook. Apparently you have to run a virtual lab with XP to use it, and people are pissed off.

The taskbar has been replaced by a new thing. It is the same concept as the Dock. Applications sit in it as both launchable applications as well as running applications. It is nice, but nothing super special.

The OS is slightly cleaner than Vista. The UAC is better, there are some new icons, there is a crisper look. But in reality, it is Vista.

It runs better than Vista Gold, but Vista with SP1 is pretty close.

Basically Microsoft listened to the complains about Vista and fixed them without making anything new. It should have been a service pack.
