I have shitty fucking Comcast with their dumbass 250 GB a month cap. Therefore I'm buying a coworker a 1 TB drive (that he can keep when everything's all set) since he's on FIOS and doesn't have such restrictions.
But yes, I basically did freak out.
Also, it wasn't "some guys". It was basically Rob Sheridan (the NIN art director/webmaster/etc etc) using HD cameras over three nights. I believe he had a team helping him, though, to get mulitiple angles.

Working too hard can give you a heart attack ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK ACK
But I, too, am both excited about HD NIN and pissed off at Comcast.

Someone should use this to point out to Comcast, that not all massive downloads are pirated movies, music, games, etc.
Here is an entertainer giving away 400GBs of HD movies, and the average Comcast user can't have access to them. So, in effect, Comcast is not giving you true "Unlimited Access Internet".

Knyte, yeah, I agree. Unfortunately, Comcast isn't even using piracy as its rationale for restricting usage. They're basically saying that the people DLing more than 250 GB a month are negatively impacting network performance for others (though everyone KNOWS piracy is the real issue).
That being said, I just bought two 1 terabytes drive (one for me and one for the guy I'm bribing to get everything for me), so I'll have all 400+ GB as soon as the transfers complete (probably sometime in 2010...).

Also, Netflix just launched a DL service. So yeah, Comcast is being queer.
And what about me? I'm on a router with two other comps, so I effectively have 83.33333 GB a month to use. And that's not counting the bandwith used by a Wii, two DSes, an XBox 360, and an iPhone.

i love how we are to a point technologically speaking that we can nonchalantly say that we have two terabyte hard drives and it's not a big deal.

Amen. I love the future.
I wish Comcast had an account bandwidth meter. I know they're working on it, but I have no idea how much bandwidth I use each month. Heck, I don't even know how much Hulu runs me up.

I would be ok with the Comcast BS if they offered a meter and they offered extended bandwidth for a price. I would pay for the extra GB when I need it.
$.25 per GB over 250 seems fair to me.

So I have all three shows now.
Granted, all of the footage is in HDV 1080i60, so I need to go blow $200 on Final Cut Express to do anything with it. But I'm still happy.

I hear that Adobe gives a 30 day trial for Premier CS4.
If you can get your project done in that time frame it would be free.

So right now I'm using FFMpeg to convert the video and it all looks pretty good. At some point I hope to do my own Edit of one of the shows just for the hell of it.
In worse news, this cropped up on nin.com last night:
"In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Are there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.
Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.
Look for tour dates soon and I hope to see you out there."
So the good part is that there's a US summer tour with Jane's Addiction. The bad news is that NIN is on hiatus for at least a while after that. Apparently in New Zealand last night, Trent told the crowd this would be his last time playing there.

20 years of solid action is damn impressive and a lot to give.
I have no doubt that Trent will be back in a few years, but knowing him, it will be with energy, creativity, and quite a bit of new material.
