Wow. I honestly thought it had died 5+ years ago. I loved this magazine back in the day.

Game Informer was awesome back in the FuncoLand days. Hard to believe it was 10 years ago that I got my job there. I miss the good old days...

I really loved an old mag called "Expert Gamer", but it later turned into "GameNOW" and it started getting less interesting in my opinion...I have no idea if it's still alive right now.

EGM was my go-to magazine. Gamepro didn't seem to do half the work the guys at EGM did for every game. I'll miss it.

wtf!? i got a 2 year subscription about 6 months ago. god that sucks ass.
i used to like gamepro, but they just seem shitty nowadays. game informer is crap imo. my nephew has that and i hate it. official playstation magazine is only ok because of their free demo disc they give out w/every issue.
never read anything other than those (besides nintendo power) so i dont care about other magazines, but it still sucks that EGM's future is 'uncertain'

I had a subscription with EGM from 1998 to 2006. I liked the older format a lot more though. Also they started screwing over subscribers. If you bought the magazine in the store you got some extra stuff, but not if you were a subscriber...WTF!? I still have a ton of back issues from my subscription days and from my buying off the shelf days in the early to mid 90's.

I'm hoping they'll do something to reimburse those who just signed up for the mag or reupped their subscription. It'll pretty shitty if they don't.
Paper media truly is going the way of the dodo.

Wow, I didn't think anyone liked EGM. As for your subscriptions, you'll be reimbursed. When WotC stopped publishing The Duelist, they sent me a check for the cash value of the remainder of my subscription. I was really bummed though, because I had the internation booster subscription. It was a little over $100 for a 12 month subscription, but each monthly issue came with 6-9 foreign language booster packs from current sets. It was pretty awesome.
But yeah, you'll get your money back.

Game Players, or Ultra Game Players as it was later called was the last magazine I had an actual subscription to. I just thought it was really funny, and rated all the games fairly, unlike the other mags that seemed to be sucking Sony's penis during the dawn of the Playstation. I loved Bill's Jaded Gamer articles, and Coconut Monkey. *Sigh*

Not only is EGM dead, but 1up is going to be scaled back and then merged into, eventually, into ugo's website. Also 30 or so staffers are gone now, there's a list of them on gonintendo.com

Man, I loved game players, and Bill was hilarious. A lot of the other guys were good too. And doing some google searches just now I found Chris Slate's blog, too bad the last post was in 2007

I still remember when some weirdo wrote in under the name El Habeeb and went on this long psychopathic rant about the apocalypse and video games. Shortly thereafter, another dude did and there was all sorts of letters talking about gerbil tubing, skull bats and sacrifices in the mail section. Finally, the mag did a final special section for it and said that they will no longer publish any more letters about it.
It was the best game magazine ever.

Sigh. That's really depressing. I also subscribed to EGM from 1998 - 2005 or 06. Always for free from internet offers. Guess I'll go back to GamePRO. Sigh again.

That's really a shame. EGM is the reason I read magazines back-to-front (I subscribed to EGM when I was twelve, and I remember Seanbaby's articles being absolutely hilarious).

I used to get GMR which was probably the best game magazine I've ever subscribed to. Sadly, they went out of business or something and I ended up getting this shitty tech magazine instead. Then I started getting EGM and Game Informer and I absolutely hated EGM. It was just full of a bunch of boring shit and they seemed really biased. I used to have all my old issues but my Mom must have dumped them when we moved

I've been subscribing to EGM since 1998. All their EGM 10 years ago retrospectives are to issues I still have!!!

Do we know what's happening to the guys who were in charge of the magazine yet? Ten years= of making a defining game magazine ought to count for something.

But has their editor been there for all that time? That mag has had some major staff turnover. I'll have to check who's still there from '98. Given the commentary in the retrospectives at least some of the staff is the same.
