Very soon, in Japan at least, Wii owners will be on the receiving end of an ambiguous video on demand service.

The details today are sparse, to say the least, but here’s what we know courtesy of Japan Today:

Japan Today wrote:
Nintendo said it would develop original programming which Wii users could access via the Internet and watch on their television. It is considering videos for both free and fees. [...] “Nintendo and Dentsu shall use the environment surrounding the Wii so that living rooms with Wii-ready TVs would become more of a fun area for communication among families and friends,” the firms said in a joint statement.

The service is scheduled to go live in 2009. Deployment beyond Japan could happen depending on the program’s success or failure.

This would be a great idea if the Wii had a hard drive.

so they start out by not including things like this, saying its a game system, and people don't need that like the ps3 and 360 have, then a year later they're looking into doing it like it's some big new feature.

bucketful of dicks, I say.

If you have to sign on to the Wii's Internet Channel it sucks already. Maybe it's just me but the Internet channel is blurry as fuck.

And the fact the stupid thing costs five bucks. I keep my Wii in my bedroom, which means it's right next to a laptop AND a desktop computer, both internet-ready. There's no reason to buy another internet browser.

Without wireless N, streaming video will kinda suck on a Wii. So I agree, WHERE THE FUCK IS OUR HARD DRIVE!

Also who wants non-HD video?

This is stupid.
