Mega Man 2's Wily Stage 1 makes me rock out. Bionic Commando's Area Theme's calm me down, and get me into the gaming mood.

If I hear the elevator area music from Metroid, you can see the goosebumps literally fly off me as I'm reminded of those days when I played that game in the dark at the age of six.

I get a lot of emotions from a lot of video game music, but one of the most powerful is the calming effect that the Music-3 from the original NES Tetris has on me. Sometimes when I'm stressed, I'll throw that one in one variation or the other and just meditate.

Fallout 3's juxtaposition of over the top violence and gore and cheery cold war tunes is a slightly disturbing experience, but fun also.

For the most part, I'm into harder/faster rock style music that really gets me ready for battle, though any music is good so long as it fits the scene. Music is an important thing to me when it comes to gaming; the game itself something I play, but the right music will encourage me to.

Kind of like the Clockwork Orange, classical music with Ultra Violence, and the whole singing in the rain scene.
If it's good game music, it should do as it's supposed to, and set the appropriate mood for the corresponding sequence of the game.
Not by any means my favorite of the series as a whole, but Final Fantasy 8 had an outstanding soundtrack. From the intro Liberi Fatali to the rest of the ambient game music, the score was very memorable and imo Uematsu's best work.

My favorite video game songs are the Super Mario 3 underground tune, the level 2-2 theme in Ninja Gaiden 2, and the Lunar Silver Star opening theme.

Totally agree on that. I love when I'm using V.A.T.S. and there is this happy music playing all the while people's heads are exploding or limbs are being shot off.

Dude, I LOVE the music from Shinobi 3. I love the balance between action-y tunes like Whirlwind or Idaten and mellow tunes like Izayoi and Ground Zero. But khinsider now requires Zango for downloads and sound-test.org doesn't have it, and I really don't feel like making my own WAV dumps from the rom unless I really have to.

Braid is awesome with music. I could play the first world over and over again without getting tired of it, because the music fits the setting to it so perfectly.

As cliche as it is, no other music has taken hold of my emotions as much as that of Chrono Trigger.

The music to the Silent Hill games (particularly Silent Hill 4) is quite introspective, and I always listen to it whenever I have to sort through a problem of any type.

For the most part I really enjoy in-game music. However there are a few exceptions:
Racing Games = I always turn the music off. I prefer just the sounds of the engines and the enviroment. (However in GT4 and TD:Unlimited, I like to listen to the clasical music while I drive.)
Sports Games = These only have music in the menus, but usually it is really shitty rap/hip hip, so off it goes.

Yea the licensing is always terrible and they usually get extra shitty remixes.
I would agree on sports games. I turn off EA Trax right away whenever I play an EA Sports game.

The music from World of Goo can really make me tense when trying to build some of the structures, which I am sure is the purpose. I also love the music from Solar Jetman when you are actually on the worlds, it really puts me on edge. As well, the music on Air Fortress after you have blown up the reactor on each base and the base is about to blow up, that really sets the move.

The best song in any video game ever is the opening theme to the original Top Gear for snes. It's a good game, but the music just makes it so much better.
