This is probably the best RPG this year. They went and they took everything that was wrong with Persona 3, like the boring dungeon, travel time, inability to control your party, the need to get the after battle cards for money or reasonable amounts of XP, getting tired, and the difficulty finding save points.
Wow, when I put it that way, it sounds like persona 3 sucked. I liked it, and it was pretty popular. But 4 is just plain better. Except as one review pointed out, the voice acting is not as good, even for the returning Igor. It even comes with a soundtrack.
Be forwarned, its very japanese, it take time to hit its stride, and you should avoid talking to anyone who has ever played the super nintendo entry of SMT, as they are almost always condescending dicks. Oh, and half of the game is still a dating sim, to get the social links needed to really power up persona fusions.

I'm really interested (especially for 40 bucks new), my friend's been working hard on The Answer in Persona 3.

I'm looking forward to buying this one! But as of right now I've been playing SMT: Imagine, the MMORPG that Atlus and Aeria games is putting out. It's quite good and follows the storyline at the end of the first SMT on the SNES

I'm interested in this myself due to the praising by critics like it's Jesus, and loving of Persona 2.
No PS2 though =/

Buy one, there bloody cheap and seeing as this is practically the last game on the system the price is only going down.

Personally, I can't stand JRPGs these days so I can't see myself enjoying this that much.

Eh, I didn't, but since 4 years I've only started to get into 'em.
So would you suggest I start with P3(FES), or jump straight in to this one? I'm kinda pressed for cash.

Each game is standalone, go for 4 while you can still find it. The older ones are expensive used.
(Stopped the second murder. The bosses have all been shadow versions of the other characters, their psychological issues made manifest. Kanji seems to have some sexuality issues, so boss two wins the "Most homosexual boss ever" contest. Also, there are generic enemies called Gigas that bear a striking resemblence to Hulk Hogan.)
