Square Enix held a surprise press conference in Tokyo on Wednesday and with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in attendance revealed that the hotly anticipated Dragon Quest 9 will be coming to DS on March 28 in Japan for 5980 yen ($64 USD).
By far the bigger news, however, is that that Square Enix and Nintendo announced that Dragon Quest 10 is being developed for Wii. No details on the project were given.
According to a live blog by the site Gemaga, DQ creator Yuji Horii took the stage and made the announcement. Afterward, Iwata was quoted as saying, "Thank you very much for announcing Dragon Quest X for Wii." A Reuters story later confirmed the news.

I thought about making a thread about this all day. As a wii fanboy I must admit I am pretty excited.

As a Nintendo fanboy, an Enix fanboy and a Dragon Quest fanboy, I am quite excited.
But why announce it now? DQ9 doesn't come out for 3 more months. We're probably going to have to wait forever for DQX. Also, I wonder if there will be any sort of Wii/DS connectivity between the two games.

Dunno, but I could really go for a great DragonQuest game. It's been too damn long frankly.

DQ8 was great.
Depending on the price of the system by then, I may get a Wii just for DQ10.

Hopefully the Wii motionplus will be out by this point and they can incorporate that for some 1:1 action.

Hopefully DQX will be a classic RPG with action menus that doesn't require any sort of motion stuff. They already released a first person sword fighting DQ game for the Wii, it's got some ridiculously long name, something like Dragon Quest Sword Adventures: The Masked Queen and The Tower of Mirrors. It you like DQ, you'd probably enjoy it.

Yea I recall that game, and also hearing how shoddy it was for not being 1:1. I am not saying I want a totally overhauled Dragon Quest game, I am also a big fan of the classic NES series. However, some well pulled off sword fighting sequences could be quite fun if executed properly. Still real stoked for this.
