I don't have too mnay Christmas wants so I am thinking about asking for a DS for xmas to fill in the gaps, my but I'm a little bit concerned that the next handheld generation is not too far away, so my question: Is it worth getting a DS at this point in time? Should games continue to be produced for it for a while or is there something else in the works for the next gen?

Also, it would likely be a used one since it's only 100$ so at that pricepoint as well is it worth it and what games would you recommend?

Well, the DSi just came out, so I assume the DS is here to stay for a few more years. I'd go for it.

What is the DSi and is it any better than the original or more expensive?

It's like what the GBASP is to the GBA. It has like, a camera and a bunch of other stuff. But I don't want one because it can't play GBA games. Also, it's probably more expensive.

Oh ok thanks, ya I don't really need a camera and it would be conveniant to be able to play GBA games on it but I'll prolly keep my GBASP just in case and for the GBA games.

Anyone else have any info on the DS that a prospective buyer should know? as well as recommended games?

Sorry if I'm late.

DSi's smaller, D-Pad doesn't suck, has larger screens, SD card slottage, 2 cameras (1 inside, 1 outside, with a lot of cool stuff to it), music player (AAC only, not MP3, also with a lot of cool stuff to it), ability to hot-swap cartridges (no turning it on and off and on and off again just to insert another game), A shop with downloadable software (DSiWare, with the web browser for free), all that.

With all that stuff, of course it'll be more expensive. American price hasn't been announced yet, but in Japan it went for the equivalent of $180. It's coming out here in a couple more months, so if you can wait, it'll most definitely be worth it. I know I'm getting one: I had the original DS and I have a DS lite now.

Eh, I just want the system and don't wanna wait, I want it specifically for Xmas, maybe upgrade when the price drops, I thought it was already out. I probably won't use the the DSiWare if I got it anyway or online stuff, I'm in it for the games plain and simple.

I am in a similar situation, however I think I can wait until Summer for the superior model.

Personally, I'd go for the DS. The DSi looks pretty crappy so far. Just alot of minor improvements and extra stuff you would never use. The only bad thing is, I heard that DSi exclusive games are going to start being made. Yeah, but anyways, the DS has lots of good games. The three Castlevania's are good (I own DoS and PoR, OoE looks good), Custom Robo Arena is fun, Tetris, Legend of Zelda, Contra 4, Mario Kart, Pokemon (if you're into it). The World Ends With You also looks very fun, and I'm hoping to get the new Kirby for Christmas.

DSi exclusive games? i hope they don't do that, I guess I could always upgrade when it comes out or drops in price, but I don't want to wait till the summer really to get a DS, I hope they don't make DSi exclusives, they should just do it like they did the GBASP, otherwise a bunch of people will be pissed.

Well, as long as you have a GBA you can play carts on, a DSi would be nice. Although you can get the DSLites pretty cheap...

there will be DS and DSi games.

i think the DSi looks pretty cool actually, and my assumption on DSi exclusive games, that would probably mean games that might use the camera, or maybe even use an sd card to save your progress rather than have a battery save.
