my pal and I went to the bar and got really drunk last night, like chugged a bunch of screaming Nazis drunk, then we were playing horde back at my house, and somehow I wiped out the entire wave with my chainsaw except for like two guys, then I got chainsawed myself and killed.

I have no idea how I managed this.

also, it's impossible to use the torque bow while drunk.

this is why I never get along with you, regardless of how much syd may think you and I have much in common.

it's like you played the game for four minutes and damned it. you must really suck at the game if you're having trouble using a basic melee attack on people, considering a paragraph up I said how I managed to kill an entire map with it WHILE DRUNK. you probably tried to run up on people who were shooting at you from across the map. I don't know how successful that would be in real life either. also, the cover system is simply fantastic, and most people that have gripes about the game simply don't understand how to use it. if you would like me to teach you how to play the game, I would be more than happy to do so if the lack of wiimote controls makes things too difficult for you to handle.

the fun of the game isn't the story or characters, but playing with a friend to tackle challenges. the entire cover system and revive system was built around this. I guess the fact that you probably have trouble getting along with other human beings in general would contribute to your dislike of this, as you've probably only played the game single player with an AI controlled teammate, and therefore couldn't enjoy that element of the game play.

I'd say this is your problem with halo and XBL as well, judging by the beer pong quip. there are more to gamers as a whole than some minute stereotypes, and this kind of talk is what gives the gaming community as a whole such a bad name. it's different to say things like this for something like a sports game that comes out every year, but to trash talk the sequel to a game, that improves upon it's first, just because it has a fan following is simply stupid.

and the story of halo is fantastic. it spawned books, comics, an entire other universe besides what you get from the games. gears also has a fantastic tale, which is really presented much better in it's sequel. everything from the music to the lighting and camera angles is done in a way where it could almost be compared to a movie in the mood that it conveys. a fantastic example of this is when dom has to kill his wife after finally finding her, or the entire thing with the second carmine brother.

Granted this may come off as hard for a literary genius as yourself to swallow, as I don't know if any sci fi themed video game could live up to the harrowing tales that you seem to pen in your spare time, but I think you need to play through it and try to seriously experience it before bitching about it. people have been talking about it for a reason.

also, if you can't handle this criticism, feel free to bother syd in real life about some guy on his website again and maybe the topic will get locked or removed for you.

The problem with Zarak's post was not what he said about gears, but how he said it. I can totaly understand a guy not liking a game. Hell, I hate half of the popular games that are out there, but I go about it in a much different way. If you don't believe this, look back to the MKvDCU topic, or that discussion about WWII shooters from a while ago.
