That is, what are some things in games that just annoy the hell out of you and you'd like to see phased out of games?
For me, it's:
- Really common random encounters. I'm totally fine with random encounters, but when they start occuring within four seconds of each other, there's a problem.
- Escort missions. I hate these so much because, almost always, the person you're escorting is an idiot who seems to really enjoy getting shot and stabbed in the face.
- Unskippable cutscenes. Why are these still around?
- Bad voice acting. Do it right, or don't do it at all.
- Any time a game tells you about a place you're supposed to go to, but it doesn't elaborate at all on where that place is or how to get there.
- Rubberband AI. Thanks, game developers, I really like it when I'm overtaken in the last turn by some guy who's been a mile behind me for the whole race.

Personally, i think more leet graphics make the games look awesome but I have little interest in the newer consoles. I'm content with older things like NES, N64 and even some sega genesis. PC games are pretty much the only next gen thing i can get into. I hate to say it but i'm not that into video games as much as i was back in the day. I can still enjoy playing anything when given the chance but it's not the same.

I agree with all of yours Decoy and have some of my own.
-Forced replayability. I hate when games shoehorn things into them so they can claim "replayability". For example, unlockables only available through a second play through. As a completionist who only likes to play through a game once, this drives me crazy.
-Emphasis on multiplayer. Games are being rated these days based more on replayability and multiplayer than actual gameplay and storylines, which is tragic. I know multiplayer can be fun, but some games are just supposed to be single player affairs. The new Tomb Raider game being panned by reviewers for not having multiplayer sent me over the edge on this one.
-Gimmicky Controls. This one is for the Wii, but works for PS3 too and due to the success of the Wii, I'm sure the next generation of games will all have flimsy motion controls. Whatever happened to the tried and true, simple controllers of yore? These days, just learning the controls to a game is a steeper learning curve than the game itself.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I hate seeing in video games. It's a fucking pain in the ass to unlock some of the stuff in Mario Kart Wii because of it.

Reading some of the comments, i think most people agree with #7 and so do i. Hell i find some NES games more entertaining then gamecube even.

Shitty AI - It's just really annoying when you're teammate is shooting at the sky, instead of assisting you shoot the enemy, or the enemy is so retarded that he is shooting at the sky.
Graphic Overhaulage - This is mostly for the PC. Back in 2007 a great game called Crysis was made. It was just pretty cool, but the fucking requirements were way to fucking high. It's not about the graphics, it's about the fun.
World War 2 - World War II was a war that had many losses, but how many fucking times does it have to be made into a fucking video game/sequel to a video game/remake of a damn video game. I can count 10 on my two hands right now that are set in the World War 2 Era.
Car Hackage - This mainly goes for the Need For Speed and other racing games. Is it just me, or when I'm going 200 MPH the Cop Cars, or the cars I'm racing somehow go fucking faster than me, and those Cops are in FUCKING SUV'S. Like Seriously, a fucking SUV cannot go 200 MPH, never have I seen that until I saw NFS.

Why can't it be some random vigilante like from Taxi Driver. Seriously, why does it always have to be a gritty space marine or WW2 guy or rouge cop. The funnest part about GTA4 i thought was the vigilante side quest.

As much as I like DnD, I don't need another RPG set in a fantasy land, be it steampunk or classic. Theres a hojillion settings out there, its not that hard people.

yes. I got that new castlevnaia game and honestly couldn't' get into it because of the controls. I had to sit there for half an hour trying out different controllers and control schemes to see if I could find something usable.
I'm probably going to return it tomorrow.

I'm not really sure how master chief ripped off doom guy.
going by fluff, doom guy was the lone survivor in a literal hell, who had to survive all of the atrocities that he's been witnessing, wrestlign with his own sanity and survival for the good of the human race.
master chief is the exact opposite. he gave up most of his humanity for the good of the human race. he's stoic, practically inhuman, an icon of invincibility for the rest of the marines.
I guess the fact that they both wear green armor helps a little though.

--Definitely agree about having "followers" in a game. They like to lag 30 feet behind you, and when you duck for cover, they do it 30 feet away where there's no cover.
