I have been trying to get a picture of a glow-in-the-dark toy glowing in the dark, but my digital camera won't cotton to it at all. I wish my camera could see exactly what my eye sees... does anyone know how to get a good picture in a lowlight environment without using the flash? I'm using a Canon PowerShot A95 if it matters.

That's a very good question. You may have already tried this, but if you can keep the camera rock-steady (i.e. using a tripod), try cranking the shutter speed way down.

if your camera is fairly new, have you toggled the camera's dik4 setting? ty setting it to a higher ratio.

if not I don't know what to tell you.

My photography skills ain't great, but if you look at some of the glowing candy and crap I've taken pictures of on my site (using a Canon Powershot), basically the "cleanest" way to get off a shot is to try, as has already been mentioned, to keep the thing steady (either via tripod or setting up your shot so that you can place the camera on a table). The "night settings" on the Powershot seem to try too hard to pull in background detail, too (more for, say, shootinng a night time car race or something, with lots of detail), so if you're focusing on just one item, line it up, keep the camera steady, and do a regular shot but with the flash disabled.
