I don't know, but Kramer has been accused of racism now: http://news.yahoo.com/s/cpress/20061120/ca_pr_on_en/tv_michael_richards_4

I saw that. There's video of it, so it's not just allegedly. Richards said some really hateful stuff. You know it's bad when he dropped the n-bomb and that wasn't even the worst thing he said.

While what he said is indefensible, Gibson was drunk as hell when he said went on his Anti-Semitic tirade and what he said was incredibly tame compared to Richards' remarks. Gibson also did the right thing. He apologized and he checked himself into rehab. And if his apology was good enough for the Anti Defamation League, a group whose primary objective is to combat Anti-Semitism, than I don't see why it shouldn't be good enough for me. If the ADL felt his comments were insincere, they would have called him on it. But they didn't. Instead, they welcomed it. Mel at least had the common decency to realize what he did was wrong and take responsibility for it.

This Richards incident could be Mel's time to shine. If he issues a statement that shows equal parts concern, condemnation, and acknowledgement of the similarities between what Richards did and what he did, maybe Hollywood will forgive him. Because really, it's only Hollywood who hasn't forgiven him. The Jewish community has forgiven him, as have most reasonable people. The only group that's really harboring ill will towards Gibson at this point are misguided liberal activists. These are the type of people who will picket outside Apocalypto so that they can tell boldly inform any third generation Holocaust survivors that they meet at cocktail parties that they "totally understand what the Jewish people went through during World War II". You know, because picketing outside a movie definitely gives someone the right to make that claim.

Apparently there was a group of black people heckling Richards with racist remarks prior to his tirade. That video won't make to YouTube. God forbid you believe what goes around comes around.

If I were doing a set and someone was heckling me, I'd heckle them back, a lot worse than they were heckling me. If they were fat, I'd heckle them about being fat, if they were black, oh my God, I'd heckle them about being black. It's called standing up for yourself, it's a foreign concept in the pussified America today. If you stand up for yourself, you're an asshole. If you let people walk over you, you get respect.

You can heckle people back without being racist though. Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, and Andrew Dice Clay never took shit from audience members.

Mike Richards should be able to heckle his hecklers in the way they heckled him. I also support this right for Carlos Mencia, Chris Rock, or any other comedian of any race or gender. You get what's coming to you, even if you instigated it.

Don't you mean his publicists had the intelligence to know that if he hadn't apologized and checked himself it rehab, his movie career would shrivel away even faster than the likes of Tom-the crazy couch jumping psycho scientologist-Cruise? Intelligence does not = decency. Cool

You can heckle the guy on stage without being racist, too.

The NAACP isn't going to come knocking on Syd Lexia's door if you say the people heckling Richards were just as out of line as him.

I'm pretty sure they won the right to drink from the fire hose right after they started heckling him.

regardless of what the guys in the audience said i expect a seasoned and talented comedian to come back with something more clever than basically chanting "nigger nigger nigger!" that is pretty much uncool.
on a side note, as one of the insulted audience members is leaving you can clearly hear him say "seinfield" not "seinfeld" i found that amusing

Yeah, he could've been more creative, and he was out of line with the more extreme stuff, but the hecklers deserved to be heckled back. Hate only begets hate, so they shouldn't have started anything in the first place.

I second niku's post.

I don't really give a flying fuck if the dude was drunk. Even when I'm drunk, I don't say racist shit....
Being drunk tore down the imaginary "wall" in his mind. because he had those thoughts sitting in the back of his head.

Allow me to quote Mobb Deep:

My point is that everyone in this situation was wrong. The hecklers, Mr. Richards, everyone.

Oddly enough, as I write this, Seinfeld just came on. Shocked

Andrew Dice Clay didn't have to use racist material for heckling, his normal stand up was racist as-is!

Regarding what you said though, Bill Hicks is a great example of this, he screamed at the audience until his throat was dry and his voice was hoarse, and with good reason. They were fucking morons who didn't deserve his effort and regard.

Also, on the subject of Apocalyptico, my Ancient Mexican History professor is one of the liberal dipshits you speak of who dislikes Mel Gibson still, but he also thinks the movie looks good.

Well, the whole sexist angry macho guy thing was just an act, but yeah I do recall a regrettable bit where he made fun of Asian drivers and referred to them as having "urine colored" skin. I think he got away with it, too. I seem to recall it just being women who protested again him.

Uncle Nutzy was WAY cooler than Richards OR gibson for that matter.

I find it kind of funny that we are talking about anti-Semitism and "jew" won't say a single word.

It's not ok to like mel, but it's ok to like his movie.

I suggest buying a ticket for Casino Royale and sneaking into Apocalypto so that Mel doesn't get any dough.

Mel's just fine. He apoligized, he said he stopped drinking, we'll be okay.

Keep in mind though, if the movie apocalypto ends with the death of the native peoples thanks to the unscrupulous and miserly business practices of a sect of hooknosed bankers intent on fattening their wallets while laying the blame on the faultless catholic conquistadors with great abs, walk out. He didnt mean what he said.

It's funny you ask a question as if it's up for discussion then you're like you should accept gibson etc.. etc.. all reasonable people do. Razz

But i too am up for watching apocalypto

I heard it was like "Mad Max in the Jungle" from the only person I know who saw it. Meaning it's very violent and it's mostly a chase.

That's good enough for me.

It took #1 at the box office last week too, so it looks like Mel might finally be in the clear.
