My college has a nerd office where all the roleplayers, otakus and gamers congregate. I spend more time there then i like to admit.

If I piss off a new online person, meh. If I piss off a person in real life? That could have more serious repercussions.
I've met people in real life and kind of got along with them. But usually I become better friends with them through social websites. Strange.

We have one of those. They made a scene from Super Mario Bros. with thumbtacks on the bulletin boards. Fucking geeks.
No offense.

We have one as well except it is considerably more lame then yours. Everyone has trench coats mesh shirts multi colored hair and plays magic or WOW. It is really sad because they almost sound like actual mental retards when they speak. Like in speech not in what they say, well I gues that too.

Same as Douche. My college's nerd room's run down, and filled full of weird/goth people that dress in all-black and smell like pure shit. =/

Yeah mine's kinda just a closet with some computers and a few overweight dudes who actually dress pretty nicely.
But there's this smaller 'hang-out' building where other weirdos hang out, along with Student Council and shit. I dunno, I never go there unless there's free food.

if im at a new job or just at work in general, i usually stay quiet. dont want to step on any toes especially since most jobs have bs politics and what not you have to deal with.
if its at a party, im just myself. no big issue dealing w/new people.

I stutter like you wouldn't believe, so I hate talking out loud in general.
Which is probably why I love forums and MSN.

In person I have a bit of trouble meeting and developing relationships with new people, I'm hard to approach. This girl approached me, talked to me and asked me some questions, I answered them and after a couple seconds of silence she just asks me "do you want me to leave? you seem bored". So I generally seem uninterested when approached I guess.

Work some customer service, it helped me come out of my shell and be a little more interactive.

Same here, I'm not that good talking with new people. The funny thing is, it happens even with people I know I could be great friends with. There's this kid at school who's a year ahead of me but we both like metal, art, and games. It just sucked because we were both shy and now we don't really talk at all.

Yeah but how many pleasant conversations do you really have working collections calls?

On the internet you have time to think about what you are saying, and it's not face to face, so you don't feel like a douche if you happen to say something stupid. This is pretty much the only forum I'm actively (somewhat) involved in, and I guess it's probably my age, but I've always felt that real life interactions and friendships are much more important and rewarding. Blackout is right, a customer service job does wonders for your abilities to communicate with other humans face to face.

On the flip side all the idiots you'll talk to will cause your misanthropy to soar to new unforeseen heights.

I can't talk to people in real life, I don't know how others do it. I think it's nigh impossible to express the full range of human emotion without the availability of smilies.
