Ok, there were the awesome games, then there were the "crappy" movies, then they are still making awesome games.

Nothing ruined.

EDIT: The movies and the games are seperate.

There's a laser chamber sequence in RE 4.

There's a laser chamber sequence AND the mention of an AI named Red Queen in Umbrella Chronicles.

Wasn't there already a Red Queen amd a laser chamber sequence?

here, let me think of a better way to lay this out for you.

when I walk into a group of people and mention resident evil, they don't start talking about the games anymore. they start talking about how much resident evil sucks, and mention the movies.

you can't look at these things as separate forms of media, you have to look at them as different parts of a franchise.

Exactly. It's like how a person with a giant tumor on their arm can't say "Oh, I don't have cancer. My arm has cancer. That's COMPLETELY different."

More like Batman Begins is awesome but The Batman (cartoon) is shit where the guys behind Jackie Chan Adventures wanted to muck up a 50+ year old licensed property.

I have to agree. I saw the new batman cartoon the other day and it was pretty horrible. Killer Croc actually looked more like a crocodile w/a tail and everything and had a Louisiana accent. It was terrible.

It's popular to hate a movie because it's based off of a game. If it's too much different than the games, it sucks. If it's too much like the games, it sucks. If it has big name actors, it sucks. if it has mostly unknown (but good) actors, it sucks. I could go on all day.

For example, Silent Hill was a great movie. It kills most horror movies of today. But no, everybody says it sucks because it's off a video game.

No i'm pretty sure the silent hill movie sucked because it was cliche and you could see everything it throws at you comin from a mile away.

Look at Doom. It was stupid. They added stuff specifically so that gamers would enjoy it, such as the BFG, but that just made the movie clunky and pointless. They might as well have looked at the screen and said "Hey everyone we're in a movie based off of the game Doom!"
Resident Evil movies were not nearly as bad as The House of The Dead movie.

I didnt hate doom because it was like the movie and i didnt hate doom because it was not like the movie. In movies they have to be cohesive stories. Not slow and go chugfests where the plot and script ad riddled down with easter eggs for video game fans which are useless for movie fans.

The main reason video game movies fail is because the makers are unsure who to cater the movies to. Do we market and make this game for video game fans or for people who like movies. Far too often they try to do both and the movie is a jumbled mess. They suck because generally they get young directors young unknown talent who over act and over direct.

Um, you can see where the movie is going for like all horror movies ever made. Thats why its called a horror movie. They're all pretty cliche.

every once in awhile horror movies do something new. nobody saw the sixth sense coming. but yeah horrow movies have either becoem cliche or they become more action than horror.

That's because they're written by people who don't know how to write real horror. The idea of horror is fearing the unknown.

And there hasn't been a good scary video game horror film adaptation and I don't foresee one ever happening. Now, Resident Evil CG may be a good movie, but I'd bet that it won't be an ounce of scary.

my problems with the resident evil movies don't stem from ANY of that. As standalone zombie action movies they are fine, not a problem. My problem is taking stuff from the games (especially characters) and kind of just doing whatever you want with them, regardless as to whether it makes sense.

I was able to stand the first movie because it had it's own set of characters, and except for the licker at the end not making sense, it could possibly almost pass as either a prequel or a side story to the resident evil mythos.

then resident evil 2 comes along, and alice wakes up, finds herself in raccoon city, there's a disney themed nemesis, and she's introduced to characters from the resident evil mythos that bear little or no resemblance to their videogame counterparts, and it all goes to hell. the icing on the resident evil cake is a trash talking pimp with gold plated guns becoming a serious role.

Why not just use new characters if they're so different? why go out of your way to take your original characters and make them into poor impersonations of someone elses work?

I think a better way to sum this up would be if someone decided to reform guns n roses, but instead of using any of the members of the original band, replaced them all with people pretending to be the band members, who weren't half as good with their instruments, and then had them play all the classic GNR songs, but in a different genre of music entirely.

if you are going to go off in your own direction and not effectively use the groundwork laid for you, at least have the decency to do it one hundred percent. Basically I would see no problem with the RE films if they were standalone movies that weren't part of resident evil, but they aren't.

Necroposting for good reason, it seems this thing has already been shown in New York on the 13th, and it was shown in LA last night.

The film will be released on DVD in the USA on the 30th of December 2008. The DVD will include special features including character profiles, bloopers, English and French subtitles, trailers for the film, featurettes and a sneak preview of Resident Evil 5.

Cast
Paul Mercier - Leon S. Kennedy
Alyson Court - Claire Redfield (The same voice she's had in RE 2 and CV)
Laura Bailey - Angela Miller
Steven Blum - Greg Glenn
Roger Craig Smith - Curtis Miller
Michelle Ruff - Rani Chawla
Crispin Freeman - Frederic Downing
Michael Sorich - Senator Ron Davis

Lastly, Nokia and Capcom announced a game partially based on the movie for the N-Gage mobile gaming service.

I was actually trying to find a theater to see this in a few nights ago, but fandango.com is useless.

I hope my store gets this on DVD. we didn't get advent children and I had to go hunting for it.

Woah, that looks awesome.

I might actually consider watching that, and thats really saying something.

I hate the live action movies for shaming RE and having little to nothing to do with the storyline. Thats just what happens with live action movies made from cartoons/video games. They just don't work. This, however, catches the feel.

And yes! It has Claire!

Your similiar to myself in the feeling on the live action movies. RE is my favorite game when they aren't whoring it out. I have played all the RE's except the gun games and outbreak which i don't consider cannon . I did like Umbrella Chronicles though, as a much needed snack before Resident Evil 5. The Anderson movies were too mainstream and took away everything i loved about Resident Evil, but this new movie looks to be something I am excited about.

So I'm bringing this back because I watched it last night. Fucking loved it. If you dig the story of the game then this movie is for you. Watch it! (but then again I like a lot of dumb movies) Don't take my word for it. BADADUM. (reading rainbow)

Claire didn't have a very prominent role in it (in my opinion), but otherwise I liked it.
