It's a mini-series, so I wasn't sure where to put it as it's not really on TV anymore, I view it more as a gigantic movie divided into segmants so I put it here.
Now, I rarely watch movies twice, especially longer ones, but I have watched the entire 10 hour series (I will watch the Documentary bonus shortly to make it 11 hourish) for the 4th time and I will definately watch it again. That is how much I love this series.
It is, in my opinion, the best thing Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have been apart of(Executive producers and Hanks directed at least one episode, I would assume Spielberg did as well but not 100% sure).
It tells of an excellent story and despite it's length it is very accessible to the casual viewer as the approximately 1 hour installments are entertaining and exciting without feeling stale, each episode looks at another member generally and still develops supporting characters as everything progresses, pulling you closer to the characters and stirring up emotions especially towards the end of it all.
No huge names as far as actors go (unless you consider Ron Livingston to be a huge name), but the acting is superb. I've looked into a few of the actors and this seems to be the pinacle in most of their careers and a few have even been given chances at there own shows, likely stemming from this (don't recall actors names but the guys who play Dick Winters and "Bull" Randalman were given TV series in the crime genre I think, I saw one on tonight and I believe the other was cancelled or just not on where I am).
I rambled on a bit but what can I say, this is by far my favorite DVD set that I own and the greatest series/movie I have watched, better than any TV show or movie that I have seen. If I had to pick one thing to view for the rest of my life this would be it.
I'm not sure what you all think of it, but I consider it a masterpiece. After 4 viewings, it still has not gotten old for me and even though I know what happens, the story still draws me in everytime and doesn't let me go until it's done.

Great series, I've watched most of them and they are all well written, acted and directed. The most realistic view of the war that I have seen. When I was stationed at Parris Island I did a stand in as a double for the (other) Band of Brother series which focused on the Marine Corps in the Pacific during WWII. I dont beleive they ever finished that one though...

The section where they fool Schwimmer's character into thinking that the general was there...genius.

I always thought the best episodes were either the one where they were holding at Bastogne and Lt. Spiers straight up ran across the enemy line, then ran back... or the one called "Why We Fight" where they discover a concentration camp. You want to see some powerful television... watch that.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Those are 2 of my favorite 3, the third being "The Breaking Point." Amazing, amazing series. I watch it like once a year. Best DVD set I've ever bought.

The 2 Bastogne episodes were my favorite as well, I think it was easier to relate to because of all the snow I get here.
My favorite non-main character is George Luz, just awsome.
The last episode always gets me, just hearing where these guys ended up and knowing that the journey of the series is over is kind of powerful.

I agree. Band of Brothers is a triumph from beginning to end.

I liked Generation Kill, but it doesn't come close to Band of Brothers IMHO.
