What's the skinny? Horrible controls? Glitchy AI? Lame moves?

I agree with everything FNJ said. I think a Marvel vs Mk would of fairer since DC people are more powerful.

yes, there are some very intricate combos, but the amount of patience and effort that you need to pull them off is ridiculous, and not even in a "practice and get better at it" way, more like a "god why does it keep making me jump backwards and punch when I'm not even hitting those buttons?"
in the end, it's frustrating, it's not fun, and it's not even that rewarding.

Best game I've bought in the past six months. I only got to play it for 25 minutes, but so worth it.
The controls are better than MK:Armageddon.

Despite the bad vibe I'm getting from you guys, I'm so buying this. This and SC4 were the main reasons I caved and got a 360.

I'm probally going to rent it, and if I like it enough, I'll add it to my collection of Video Games.

If you love MK or DC half as much as me, you owe yourself to get this game. I admit, I'm not a l33t fighting game fan. I prefer fighting games where I can actually pronounce the fighters' names. Nothing says America quite like Superman or Sub-Zero.
However, I will say that if you love MK or DC half as much as me, you probably like to save money too. In which case, can you wait the six months (or even one) before the price goes down? Well, that's admitting you are a n00b and not Noob Saibot, but yes. Yes, you can. And so can you.

obviously if you enjoyed the past three mortal kombat games, you'll probably try to find some reason on why this game is worth sixty bucks, but I for one feel ripped off.
I could have spent that money on a copy of battle fantasia.

...Same here. I'm surprised the game is getting decent reviews, but I'm not surprised the game is infected with that good ol' ' Mortal Kombat Stiffness' where the controls are concerned. I don't know why it's so hard for them to give the overall Gameplay an overhaul, but meh.
...Anyway, I liked the last three (4, counting Liu Kang and Kung Lao go to White Castle, or whatever that game was called) MKs, but I'm gonna actually rent this one before I decide to buy it...

shaolin monks was a lot of fun. I especially loved the stage where you get the cheetah high and ride it.

Yeah this game is crap. Controls suck, graphics suck for using Unreal engine. The special grappling and pitfall combat aditions are stupid follow the directions, Simon, button mashing. Not to mention that a franchise that has never made a game below M or MA-17 rating, took out all the gore and even censored the Joker's fatality for the NA release. I wanted this game to be awesome so badly, but as I had feared, the MK series has been dead since 3.

I never thought I'd be defending a mortal kombat game, but half of what you said simply isn't true. probably one of the only thigns that I really like about the game is the graphics and the presentation. I can't even tell you how many times I went back and forth on the main menu to see if the battle with batman and scorpion escalated. complaining about the gore being gone is kind of silly, as a game that has to rely on ultraviolence to move copies probably isnt' a good one to begin with, and that's one of my main problems with MK as a franchise. they're incredibly shallow games that use their pols of blood and fatalities as a crutch, and people love them for it.
I'll quote what I said over at HG101:
well, I don't think DC really forced the T rating, so much as midway was trying to make the game more accessible to a wider range of potential buyers. honestly people still bleed when they get punched, it's just done a little more realistically if you think about it. I always found the buckets of blood flying out of someone after an uppercut to be a tad ridiculous, personally.
I think the more realistic amounts of blood, coupled with the fact that the character models have torn clothes and bruising, make the presentation much more believable.
on the topic of fatalities, I don't really think the zooming affects the fatality as a whole. Deathstroke has a similar fatality, and I kinda think that the character getting shot off camera gives the move more personality. This may not work as well for joker's, as he's a psychotic madman, and not a stone cold, remorseless killer like deathstroke, but it could be a lot worse. they could have omitted the move altogether after the ESRB fussed.
good for thought though, deathstroke still has a special move where he whips his gun out and shoots you, and it can totally be done when prompted to "FINISH HIM", giving almost the same reaction (a character falling over dead). I wonder if midway could have "salvaged" the joker's fatality by not simply just removing the blood spraying from the back of kitana's head.
all that aside, it still doesn't make the game playable. the stiff controls and robotic movement of the characters make doing the pro moves and freeformed combos (sorry, Kombos) more frustrating than rewarding. it's not a bad game, but it takes a lot of adjusting to get used to.
long time mortal kombat fans will find reasons to enjoy this game, but the rest of us will probably play it for the achievement points, then shelve it in favor of something a little different.

I probably should have waited three months til it was $30, but I bought it anyway.
As a lazy fighting game player, I enjoy it. There are like 8 million fighting game franchises out there, and I can't be bothered to learn and memorize combos for each one. As a mindless mashfest, it's quite fun.

See, I wrote a whole topic, then deleted it seeing this one, but let me further explain:
I totally agree graphics and violence aren't important for a great fighting game. the SF's will always be my favorite games, and they neither have spectacular graphics or excessive violence. My point is, they are using the unreal engine, and aside from the load screens, the stages look sloppy and unsophisticated. It's not like they are bad, it just gives me the impression that they didn't put full effort into it.
As far as the gore goes. Absolutely correct. Gameplay is much more important, but the gameplay fails, and we are talking about a franchise that helped to spawn the game rating system. You can deny it till death, but the truth is that MK made a name for itself off ultraviolence. Played mk1 lately? some of the clunkiest most awful controls ever. I don't know, I guess in my eyes MK2 was near perfect, so it's a tall order to ask for something to top it.

My favorite is still MK Trilogy on the N64. I agree it did make a name for itself with excessive violence, but also with it's look. I know that has evolved over the years, but it was a great depature from the SF dynasty that was taking place at the time.
Edit: I am a huge SF fan, probably my favorite fighting series outside of Soul Calibur and above all the SNK stuff, which also kicks some ass.

What are you Canadian now? But yeah, the look was what I thought the future of gaming would be. I thought that eventually we would be controlling actors in a movie. I was 12, and it's silly now that I know how things work a little more, but still, I was kind of right. I mean aside from the ridiculous over-the-top grizzled marine face with absurdly large muscles, GoW, looks pretty fucking real.

If only there was a chance of this coming out on PC.
I was always more of a MK guy than a Street Fighter fan, and I love all that is Batman. Unfortunately, I don't buy consoles anymore, and just play the occasional PC game.
