Only in Australia.
...and as a follow-up, evidently someone paid $15,000 for the 7-legged spider drawing on eBay, and is refusing to pay up, saying that he wasn't being serious when he bid for it.

He has to pay: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=665808
If you check eBay's wiki, it has a list of silly auctions that have occurred.

He's under no obligation to pay. As a buyer, you can no longer receive any negative feedback and you can cancel your bid for any reason.

Yeah, the dude doesn't have to pay. If it's the first time he refuses to pay, he won't even lose his account. You have to do it like 10 times. ebay is for queers at this point.

Wha..? I thought bidding on eBay was basically a contract saying you are seriously buying the said item. If eBay won't help you out on this matter, I'm sure you could sue in civil court to get them to pay....

I had made a best offer on ebay for a Jersey before the NFL season began and completely forgot about it. I signed in like a month ago and saw I had an unpaid Item strike against me that will be lifted soon. So basically they don't give a shit.

If you actually receive the item, but refuse to pay, then it's a legal issue. If you bid, but don't pay at all, then you're under no real legal problem.
