This is just shameful. Obama's win was supposed to be a triumph over racism, but it looks like racism is still alarmingly alive in America. I guess that's one of the few benefits of living in Massachusetts; I haven't met a single racist in my entire life. If I did, they kept it to themselves.
I may not like Obama's politics, and I'll probably be first in line to vote against him in 2012, but this is an issue that transcends politics. This man has been elected my next president, and you don't fuck with MY president.

Just pathetic. Racism makes me sick. Obama is only half-black, with one of the "whitest" acting personalities I've ever seen. I hope that doesn't sound racist.

Very saddening, but not at all surprising. I figured that assassination plots were going to be rampant if he won the presidency.
And not to jump into stereotypes, but a lot of those ignorant hick redneck racists also happen to be gun nuts.

Here's one of the resident Southerners here.
I'm ashamed to say that one group of my relatives are not only Southern Baptist Republicans, but racist as well. While my uncle has the sense to keep it to himself when he's out in public, he does have one of those black lawn jockey statues in his yard. His 2 daughters, ages 11 and 13, wanted to stay home from school the day after Election Day for fear of reprisal drubbings by their black classmates for openly saying things like "I wish MLK had never been born so I wouldn't have to go to school with you."

Well, look at John Hinckley Jr. The man was crazy as hell, and he almost managed to kill Reagan. I'd like to believe that it's hard to kill the president, but the truth is, it might not be. You just need to know where's he going to be, and be quick. Security and surveillance techniques have come a long way since 1981, but it's still fairly hard to stop a lone gunman who gives no prior indication of his plans.
The main thing is, I don't think Obama will be doing any parades. If the JFK assassination and the hit movie The Dark Knight have taught us anything, it's that parade routes are impossible to secure.

Was anyone actually under the impression that racism wasn't still alive and well in this country? Do we really think it only exists in some backwater Mississippi podunk? Take a trip up to northern NY some time, you'll hear shit that would pin your ears back.

Well, most people who are racist are indoctrinated at a very early age to be racist.
Other than that, that's just how humans are. People are naturally suspicious and distrustful of people who are obviously different from them, and nearly every major conflict in human history can be boiled down to that.

Haha, yeah, it's Stormfront, and according to Cracked.com, right when Obama won, their server crashed from the number of racists rednecks going there to bitch. I didn't check to see if it was back up because I don't want to go to a racist site.
Surprisingly, as a Texan, I've never met an open racist. But, on Facebook, before and after the election, there were a disturbing number of comments that definitely bordered on racism. Some of them imcluded "It's called the White House for a reason", "What does Obama have in common with Kennedy? Nothing yet!", "white power will be restored", "America is dead now", "Why do you think he wants to pull us out of Iraq? Think about it", which I presume was alluding to the myth of Obama's "Muslim" background. It was basically a war zone. These are people who have never uttered a racist word in their life (at least that I've heard), but the minute something like this happens, their true colors show. It's absolutely disgusting. Someone even posted:
